Low Fps in All Games... Clock Speeds very low, not firing up.

Hey guys.

Just bought a Lenovo Legion Y920 Laptop, and doesnt matter what game i play, no game goes above 40/45fps, even on lower graphics… PUBG for instance in menu with lowest graphics doesnt go above 25fps... I have all my drivers installed and updated, i have my laptop plugged in and running in high performance, i've pre-selected my gtx 1070 on the nVidia control panel, i've just reenstalled my operative system. I've used the setting on nVidia control panel to monitor what apps the graphic card is using, and it says all the games i start, it is starting. I've searched this problem over and over for already 6 or 7 hours before i reenstalled my OS. Before that i've also tried to install msi after burner and CPUID to figure how the graphic card was working, and i've discovered that my Clocks are running at very low MHz (403mhz , 601mhz), and every time i try to start a game, it doesn't fire up…
I would really appreciate the help.

(UPDATE FLASHED MY GPU BIOS, THERE WAS NO MATCHED MODEL NR, SO MAYBE I DID SHIT, STILL DOESNT WORK. ANY HELP?)

Cheers, Rúben Gomes

plug the laptop in, don't run on battery, and in power settings, click on the right side that says additional power settings and set it to high performance mode.

Get MSI Afterburner and post what sort of readings you get for temperature and power.

As mentioned, having it plugged in is your best bet, often low battery consumption settings are often the cause for stuff like this.

What does that computer have in it? CPU, GPU, RAM, storage etc. also it's better to use a more finalized, less buggy game to test performance (if its still buggy)

Was that sarcasm?

Ruben,

Please post screenshots of gpuz. Also msi afterburner monitoring graph showing clocks, temp, and power limit in the image (load ab , play 10 mins and take a snapshot with the data.

not really sure, as I don't know much about laptops, but how did you get desktop gpu inside a laptop? Aren't those supposed to have some kind of m suffix or something?

First thing, stop doing that, you've now introduced yet another uncertainty. Waiting on the MSI Afterburner screenshots, you need to know why the GPU is downclocking.

And power usage, this might look like a TDP bug, which is why I asked for power readings. You can also use the GPU-Z sensor tab, click on the "?" button start the test, wait for 2-3 minutes and post a screenshot of the Sensor tab.

It does look like a TDP bug or the laptop is not using the dedicated GPU for some reason. Unfortunately if it's the TDP bug I don't know how to help, there was a thread on here about that if I remember correctly.

Hmm, my friend had the same issue with a brand new msi laptop.. Ruben, can you right-click the desktop and go to nvidia control panel, then manage 3d settings. There should be a dropdown box that is titled 'Preferred graphics processor', make sure 'high-performance nvidia processor' is selected.

Also keep in mind the laptop will only run on the integrated GPU while on battery, the nvidia gpu only gets used while plugged in.

Flashing your GPU bios was a very bad idea, you're lucky your laptop still works.

Doesn't Nvidia default to 30fps limit in the control panel? (sorry if already mentioned)

It's "Prefer Maximum Performance" in the Nvidia Control panel

Not that I know of... but I don't have a laptop with an NVIDIA GPU. He also mentioned that it is going over 30 FPS anyway....

Even capped at 30 clocks should still go up.
