Hello there. Since I have both options, I was wondering if enterprise U.2 NVMe drives offer any advantage over regular consumer M.2. Besides very high rated TBW, are there any performance differences like latency or reads/writes?

I'm experimenting with some fun simulation workloads that might benefit from faster storage since they constantly read and write a lot of data to a cache in local storage.

U.2 and m.2 are just the interface. The controller/flash chips dictate tbw and speed. Since u.2 is an enterprise focused technology, the drives tend to be enterprise grade, hence why it looks like they have higher tbw. But in reality, if you found the same drive in a m.2 form factor, it would be the same.

Thats good to know. They both use PCIe bus with the same number of lanes, so if the controllers are similar there is no reason to go U.2 for me.

a 2.5" U.2 usually has much more surface area as well. I'm a sucker for the u.2 Optane SSDs
