Bios 2002 is for:
Athlon IIX3 440
Athlon IIX4 635
Phenom IIX2 545
Phenom IIX2 550
Phenom IIX2 555
Phenom IIX4 910E
There is also a bios 2003 out that also does not support them.
Here's the full list: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M3A78-EM&product=1&os=30
*Actually I don't see any x6's listed for any board, including 890FX
Suposedly, only the M4 boards will support the new CPUs, mostly because of the northbridge (yours is a SB700, the lowest should be the SB710).
Then again, it's Asus, and they're superheros regarding CPU compatibility.
They made my old P5W-DH, a 975X chipset designed for Pentium 4, compatible with pretty much every single Socket 775 CPU, down to the latest 45nm Wolfdale and Yorkdale CPUs.
So theoretically it shouldn't be compatible, but I wouldn't be surprised if the "new CPUs" supported in the new bios are actually the new 6-cores.
