There hasn't been any mass market product made in the U.S. that were exemplary in the good way. U.S. cars, anyone?
I don't think this is just PR. There has to be some monetary incentive or the Apple bean counters would have a fit.
The PR, of course, doesn't hurt ... at least in the US market.
