I'm liking the concept a lot, and I'm LOVIN' that it's in my city! The analysis was pretty good and in depth for this early little bit of gameplay he got to do.

Me too, "N'awlins" is a great place for a setting for a game like this, esp back when there was so much racial tension. A lot of potential for some really emotional scenes (don't let us down after I built you up Hanger 13). And I dig that Vito is there with them.

Franklin was my fave character to play as in GTA V, and I'm thinking it will just feel right playing an oppressed black man in this one. Devs seem to be showing black protagonists more respect these days too. They've come a long ways from the graffiti spraying hoods of yesteryear.

The Italian mafia never had a strong grasp on Louisiana. I loved Mafia, Mafia II was very "meh," and this looks even worse. They pulled a Godfather II (talking video game).

You sir, are completely out of your element on knowledge. The Italian Mafia was huge here until the 70's.

Some trivia: New Orleans has a very large percentage of descendants of Irish and Italian immigrants. They settled in huge numbers in large working class neigborhoods. That racial composition is what is responsible for the New Orleans accent almost sounding like Boston and unlike anything in the South, which had much the same immigrant heritage as New Orleans. It's also the reason New Orleans is the only Southern city with an overwhelmingly Catholic population.

I love this series. For me, it does a good job of presenting different time periods and a lot of the quirks that went with them. I don't mind the cinematics because this game does them very well. I'll definitely pick this one up.

And they hired black chicks? She could be an associate but hardly belongs in a game baring that title as a prominent character.

You didn't watch the 2nd video, which explains what happened here. Late sixties saw the rise of african-american gangs, and they gradually muscled out everyone else. Those black gangs are so violent and powerful now, we're nearly the only major American city that has no Bloods, Crips, or MS-13. All local, homegrown stuff.

The protaganist in the trailer is Black as well. Based on what we know about the game so far, they should have called it "Organized Crime", since it seems to be more about the demise of the Mafia in New Orleans at the hands of Lincoln. But, to answer your question, yes, the Mafia hired african-american muscle. Thats part of what led to the rise of black gangs. Why get peanuts when you can run the action?

So...it's going to be like Mafia II in the same way that you're pretty much just muscle in that game too but instead of being dragged through the mud by the mafia, you'll destroy it? That makes a lot more sense seeing that Vito is in it. Vito would want to break away from the mafia while Lincoln wants to take control from the mafia. One in the same really.

Still, nostalgia bites me in the ass. Mafia was great not because it strayed from the ideals of the mafia, but because it embraced them. It was great for the same reason The Godfather (movie) was great. There's something romantic about the mafia that both portrayed excellently: the mafia puts family above all else and that includes righting wrongs no matter who committed it. Mafia II and Godfather II (game) both lost that romantic facet and more or less just turned into an open-world shooter that gets lost in the sea of other open-world shooters. They are entirely forgettable experiences. Even Scarface the movie and Scarface: The World Is Yours game capture the same thing. I just can't see Mafia III bringing it back because to do that, they would have to recreate the foundation Mafia (first game) and I highly doubt that.

thought the same thing too, Mafia 1 was epic and the second well was like you say meh. Looking forward to seeing the 3rd but it's not some thing i really looking forward too like i am with JC3 and FO4.
Just Cause 2 was Mafia II for me. JC2 had seven missions...SEVEN!...and the rest was Grindy McGrind! JC3 needs to recapture the magic of JC otherwise I'll pass on that one too.

As long as FO4 uses the shooting mechanics of FNV, I'll be happy. That is to say: VATS should be for emergency situations, not necessary for the simplest of encounters.

What made you think I was implying they weren't? Man, talk about acting like a complete ass over trumped up assumptions. What are you high on?
There was a quote before what you quoted. It was directed at me and I deserved it demonstrating my lack of knowledge of New Orleans history.

Dude, you are high ... he wasn't replying to you

With the way he said it right after my post with no one but me having posted before him, that's a strange way to respond. What the hell.

Wth?? Look at my reply. I was replying to Ford. Ford posted, and I quoted his post, which was posted in between yours and my posts.

I think you might be having internet lag problems, or it was so late at night you were in a fog. I would prefer not to think you'd call me an ass and then not apologize.

I think you might be having internet lag problems, or it was so late at night you were in a fog. I would prefer not to think you'd call me an ass and then not apologize.

It's clearly just confusion caused by some weird forum thing. I saw no post between mine and yours and I still don't. I did however see Ford's other post after that, but now it's gone. I've never seen anything like that happen before on all the forums I've chatted on. Just looked again though and I noticed my post is #3 and yours is #5.

You say you "quoted" his post though, yet I see no quote, and if had, I'd have clearly seen whom you were responding to.

Here is said quoted post in it's entirety as I see it. No quote box whatsoever.

"You sir, are completely out of your element on knowledge.

It's also the reason New Orleans is the only Southern city with an overwhelmingly Catholic population."

If I were to issue an apology I'd feel like I was just going through the motions to appease you though, as I did not cause the confusion. Suffice it to say I'm more inclined to tell you it's a matter of an uncommon forum happening made more strange by a post I saw no quote in.

I'll PM you more details that clarify things further.

@Frag Maniac No harm done, issue resolved by PM. It was technical difficulties.

@FordGT90Concept accept my apology as well for sounding a little strong in my correction. I see it looks worse than I meant it.

There was a quote before what you quoted. It was directed at me and I deserved it demonstrating my lack of knowledge of New Orleans history.

Even though i was on about JC3 and FO4 2 games that are not released i will bite stil, FO3 and JC2 i played them both though twice and the sad part is Mafia 2 was a fail to me don't really remember playing it, although i do remember playing Mafia 1.

Lets face it JC now is more about blowing every thing up, and sadly i don't believe JC3 be any different their has not been enough time to get more done. But most games are like that Skyrim as much of a good game it was story sucked balls and once you had visited places story is real short.

Seems like we cannot have our cakes and eat them too.

I think the primary problem with Just Cause 2 is they made the map too big. The game lacked content to fill the map; hence the grind.

But that's what most want including me, now the maps going be much bigger in JC3 so maybe a only 3 missions ( pun intended ).

I tend to like exploring new games games before even bothering with the main missions but when the main becomes to be done it's a let down and always seem like there is a lack of creativity which i would of thought would be down to time restraints.

Thanks! That was a good watch, and was good to confirm some things about Lincoln, his plot point, and the deal with Vito being there, which all makes sense, historically.

EDIT: Towards the end is a screenshot (2:52-3:00) of a 15 story building with a white cupola on the top (right foreground), and one tall building in the left background. That is representative of the skyline back then. The building in the foreground is the Hibernia building, and at one time was the tallest structure in New Orleans. The one in the background is the New Orleans World Trade Center.

The view from the foreground is now unable to see the background due to the Hibernia building being surrounded by 40 and 50 story office buildings. It now lies completely in shadow. Anybody who saw the movie The Mechanic (with Jason Statham) will recognize the World Trade Center in the background as the building he and his protege entered from the top in order to take out the preacher dude.

I'll continue to share tidbits I see as they release more images, if people don't mind.

^Yeah, keep the trivia coming, I'm sure you'll be best qualified to tell us how authentic the landmarks are.

For me, one of the best screenshots was the night shot with all the lights, really cool.

Yeah, I loved that too! I am glad they have juked up the formula a bit on who you play as! It will keep the game more interesting I think than had we just been plunked down into a Mafioso family again.

EDIT: At some point they are going to have to take some license on the street layout. New Orleans is one of the most confusing to get around in if you think you're going to navigate North, South, East and West. Because of the radical curves of the Mississippi River, directions here are given in the form of Uptown, riverbound, lakebound (Lake Pontchartrain). For instance, travelling to the West Bank of New Orleans on the big bridge in one of the scenes, you are actually driving East! If they imitate it all without license, I anticipate it being very hard to get away from the cops for instance.
