Hello, this is my system
e6600
asus P5B Deluxe
Corsair XMS2 DDR-800
Thermaltake w0057 500watt modular PSU
2 sapphire x1650xt's

First off I had to jump through hoops to get ccc to let me enable crossfire, once I finally got it enabled, problem after problem is being shot at me. Oblivion runs at 25fps with 1 card, with crossfire enabled? 3fps... thats right 3! and chops all over the place. Supreme commander demo now says I dont meet the minimum system requirements. Call of duty 2 crashes before it even gets started. Prey and quake 4 however I have actually seen nice improvements with them. FEAR doesnt even render hardly anything, I see some gunshots but mostly the screen is black. So what in the world is going on? I have uninstalled ccc crazy amount of times, reinstalled DX, flashed bios. The only thing I am uncertain of is the bios settings to allow the 2nd pciex to be active? I figured if I didnt have it right, it wouldnt even detect the 2nd in windows or allow x-fire to be turned on. or is my power supply causing this much chaos?

Thanks!:banghead:

I think your PSU should be fine...500W should power your system easily, even if you overclock say, 18% or so. Could be a driver issue, or, if your board isnt Xfire enabled or ready, that could also be a problem. Have you updated the chipset drivers for your motherboard?

Well, having checked it on newegg...it seems it supports Xfire with a 16X and 4X configuration. Perhaps see if you can enable it with 8x and 8x....

I think a 500 watt PSU is really pushing the limits.

Thanks for the responses, people seem real helpful at this board. I have ran 7800GTX's in SLI and the system never hitched a single time. I would think that those cards would suck alot more power than 2 lesser cards. I am getting ready to do a complete uninstall of direct x and reinstall it, then reinstall video drivers... if this dont work, I sure hope someone else can, this is driving me crazy

Well, All games work now in crossfire mode, there was some issues with directx that I sorted out, HOWEVER When crossfire is enabled I see a DECREASE in performance in every single game Oblivion hovers around 18-20 w/x-fire enabled 25-30 without crossfire. GRAW 20-23 with 25-30 without, call of duty 2 is the same way. What in the world is causing this!?

Did you use driver cleaner pro, restart, install drivers, and restart? Id go with lower version of the catalyst drivers or the overdrive drivers or the other groups (cant remember their names off the top of my head). It makes no sense for you to lose performance with two of the X1650 XTs...

then again, it could just be the cards. I mean two together equals what, an X1800 GTO or something?

2 of these cards equal performance on par and better in alot of tests to a 1950pro actually. I never used driver cleaner pro, I updated to the 7.2 drivers tonight and its the same song and dance. I am totally lost. I am not computer "ignorant" and have quite a bit of experience under my belt, but this one has got me stumped. I have never heard of the other driver sets.

Everest tells me under crossfire status that its supported, but disabled?

Small update : Done a full reinstall of windows and games now have a nice boost, however 3dmark 05 and everest still dont show crossfire working. My system only pulled 7087 marks and I thought it should be around the 10k mark. Everest still states that crossfire is disabled? hope someone can lend a hand!
