Make Intel Core i7-8550U in Lenovo T580 fanless?

Hi All,
I have a Lenovo T580 laptop (without the nVidia MX150) with a 8550U CPU. The fan is ok-ish, but sometimes I work in a very quiet environment and it would just be nice if the laptop would not use the fan at all. I am already using Throttlestop to slightly undervolt it. Using the Windows Power-Profiles (e.g. max battery saving) does not help either. I mostly do just office work, so I'm fine with sacrificing processing speed of the CPU.

Recently I read somewhere that Throttlestop also can set the thermal limits of the CPU? Would that help? And I guess there are easy to switch profiles in Throttlestop, so that if I need more power, then I could easily switch?

Kind Regards,
Andre

you can get there by using thermal pads and make the cpu heat dissipate through the machine whole chassis

another way would be setting the max speed for the cpu in windows to 99%, i7 turbo bins use a lot of power even for single core and that is very inefficient

Thanks for the reply. It's a laptop, so not sure thermal pads would work?

"setting the max speed for the cpu in windows to 99%" - how could I do that?

Dont know the laptop age in your possesion... but not using intensive workload and having the system a clear ventilation (thermal maintenance), it should turn the fan off in low usage.
The "culprit" zone (RED) of many laptops, the aluminum/cooper fins that retains all dust and forms a wall preventing airflow.

A laptop stand, fanless or large quiet fan also a good solution for overall cooling.

setting the max speed for the cpu in windows to 99%
In Power Options you can set the Minimum and Maximum processor state to 99%. This will disable Intel Turbo Boost. If you are already using ThrottleStop, just select the Disable Turbo box on the main screen of ThrottleStop instead.

Another method to control the maximum speed of your CPU is to adjust the Speed Shift Max value in the TPL window. A slow CPU will sacrifice performance but will run cooler so there should be less fan noise.
