Hi guys.
With the holidays coming up, i've scrounged enough money to make me a solid far into the future build.
I could use some pointers on a couple of things.

I still can't decide wether to go with a Ryzen og Intel CPU.
But this is what i'm looking at so far.

If AMD:

CPU:
Ryzen 7 1800x Octacore

Mobo:
Asus ROG STRIX X370-F Gaming

if Intel

CPU:
Core i7 I7-8700K 3.7 GHz (Intel Boxed)

Mobo:
ASUS TUF Z370-PRO GAMING
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

GPU:
ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-11G-GAMING (11 GB) or
eVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 GAMING (Founders Edition) (11 GB) and alternatively get a Kraken G12 and add as waterblock

Or

EVGA GeForce GTX1080Ti SC2 Gaming Hybrid which has its own watercooling i can connect to the Kraken 62

P. Supply:
Corsair RMx Series RM1000x

Ram:
Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 - 3600MHz 2 x 8 GB

CPU Cooler:
NZXT Kraken X62

Storage:
Samsung 960 EVO MZ 500 GB x2 for RAID0

Case:
NZXT H440

I can't quite figure out which ram to get, i'm looking at both 16gb and 32gb. Eventually i'd like to get 32gb, but thats not a major want right now, 16gb would go.
So if anyone has any tips as to wether i should go AMD or Intel.
And also which ram would you recommend for this setup?

Just check the motherboard memory QVL before buying any memory either for AMD or Intel once you decided.
To be sure it's compatible and able to run at it's rated speed.

If gaming the Coffe Lake is the way to go.
If your not gaming, Coffe lake is the way to go.
If your just using the computer to open Facebook, Coffe lake is the way to go.

If you are editing / Adobe Premiere than 1700x is what you need, and if one morning the computer does not boot,SSD not recognized ...it's fine, this is normal behavior for Amd.

You've trolled enough threads with your nonsense about Ryzen and RX 480. Whatever issues you encounter can happen on every other platform. So for Christ sake just stop once and for all.

Thay bieng said the only other thing I have to add to OP is , if you go the AMD route go for the 1700 , it's better value and you can OC it to 1800X levels easily.

No, no it's not. We get it you've had a shitty time with your build for whatever the reason but spouting crap just because you've had a bad experience with your particular setup. Just sell it and buy intel and your life will be complete.

If going Ryzen theres little difference in terms of higher end b350 chipsets and the x370 so I would say save some money in that regard and also agree with @Vya Domus to go with the 1700 instead of the 1800x there could be a potential $200 saving just from these 2 items to add towards GPU/RAM/NVMe etc

you dont need a 1k watt power supply that is just over kill. You can save some money by getting a 750 or an 850w max.

Always hard to make a recommendation w/o knowing the usage. That being said:

CPU (Suggest reading the Pros and Cons on these links) ... outside of "I need to game **and** do workstation apps on a budget PC, I see no place for Ryzen:
AMD 1800x (8.6 rating) - https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Ryzen_7_1800X/16.html
Intel 8700k (9.8 rating) - https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_8700K/

For Gaming / Office Apps / AutoCAD we use Intel 8700ks
For workstation loads, we use Intel 7800x where budget controls and 7900x o last build where budget wasn't an issue. See why here:
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...aby-Lake-X-Broadwell-E-Kaby-Lake-Ryzen-7-969/

If you look at the reviews here ,,, https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ .... (type Ryzen over "type to search") , you will find some man of the 'cons" are pretty consistent:

"Gaming frame rates lower than competing Intel chips ....Higher power draw than Intel CPUs, Memory frequency options and memory compatibility limited, Setup complicated (memory, HPET, CCX, SMT, and power profile), Boost frequency significantly lower than on Ryzen 5 1600X, Requires optimized apps of which there are not many, lacks integrated graphics"

Now all that being said, that should diminish what AMD has accomplished. Getting a CPU that does very well in both gaming / mainstream apps and workstation class applications is quite an accomplishment. . If ya don't need the workstation capability in your gaming box, then you are better off w/ Intel as the TPU reviews clearly demonstrate. If you make aliving using wokstation apps in a production environment , then Intel's workstation CPUs will soon pay for themselves. However, if you need both in the same box, then th AMD Ryzen CPUs are going to be the best solution.

MoBo:
The Intel board is grossly overpriced . Asus started a thing w/ the Z170 series whereby they put bottom of the barrel audipo solutions in their boards in this proce range and with Z270, most of the other manufacturers juoined in tho not into the $150 price range as Asus has done. At $150, you shoukld expect ALC 1220 and the provided ALC 887 is last generation and several tiers down As ypu can see here, better featured and better quality boards are available for the same price or less
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=280|13-119-041^13-119-041,13-144-111^13-144-111,13-145-039^13-145-039

GFX Card:
The EVGA series is simply a refernce card with a nice cooler ... however its hard to apply the word 'nice' to any CLC type cooler. With that proce tag, you should be getting something betetr than a stock nVidia PCB. Competitor in this proce range offer numerous improvments in PCB cooling and pwer delivery. AFAIK, the CLC cooler on the card is not 'expandadable, and neitehr is the X62. Both make the mistake of mixing copper blocks. The Strix isn't a bad card, tho it wouldn't be on the top of my list.

Cooler:

For ri=oughly the same price as the X62, you eliminate the proble,ms associated with CLCs (weak pumps, aluminum rads, mixed metals) and install a AIO system that is a) actually expandable, b) copper / brass rads, and c) powerful pumps. The Swiftech AIOS are a collection of **real** custom loop components preassembled at the factory. The Swiftch $165 H320 X2 (3 x 120mm) or $1450 H240 X2 (2 x 140mm) literally blow the doors off the Kraken.

http://www.swiftech.org/images/products/H320-X2-COLOR-PICS.jpg

And the Swiftech units won't leave ya system looking like this:
https://martinsliquidlab.wordpress.com/2012/01/24/corrosion-explored/

And if ya want lower temps, adding another radiator or more water blocks is a piece of cake. Anothe roption is the EK Modular series. And while they offer a reduced price alternative with aluminum rad and waterblocks, they do not try and foist an AIO with mixed metals upon you. The parts are modular and come refilled with coolant so the components just snap together.

RAM:
For RAM, if I can't get my hands on Muskins, will usually go w/ Corair ... for the last few months, the price / performance sweetspot has been DDR4 3200

Storage:
For storage our default go to storage subsystem includes one of more Samsunbg EVO SSDs with one or more SSHDs for data storage. I try RAID about every 3 years or so and still, RAID 0 ofers no benfit on the desktop. After 3 months I disabled the arrays. Not that Samsung will provide no support for RAID using their SSDs

Case:
I like the H440 and its still on our options list but like Dimitri, most of our users chose the Phantels Luxe over the H440

Tho frankly, both are a bit 'long in the tooth" and the most popular case we see asked for is the "Case of the Year" Enthoo Evolv TG

PSU:
As for the PSU, 1,000 watts is way more than ya need. What reolsution ? ... a chance of SLI in your future at 4K ? Is money an issue ? When money is there we tend to lean Seasonic Prime Series ... in white builds where you see the PSU, the Seasonic Snow Silent Series, SuperFlower, Seasonic SSR, EVGA P2 / G2 are all fine units

Just a couple of thoughts:
The H440 is fine for <200 watts GPU + 125 watts or less CPU, but above that they don't breathe well enough. Be careful with your choice of cases. There are too many on the market today that were designed for looks, without considering air flow.
The Kraken 62 is not, I repeat, not an OLC (Open Loop Cooler) also known as an expandable AIO. Consider this: The Kraken 62 costs ~$160, and it only cools your CPU. An EKWB water cooling kit, the EK-KIT S360 goes for $220 and a GPU block can be added.
If you go with Ryzen, Asrock seems to have the best motherboards for them, at this time.

Anyway, back on topic. OP, if you decide to go with Ryzen, a 1700 should be just the thing you're looking for. Not only can you OC it to 1800X levels for less money, you can put the money you saved towards more RAM if you wish. And if your ultimate goal with RAM is to get 32GB, trust me, you're going to need every cent you can get. RAM prices are out of control right now and look to be for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

As long as he is sticking to air cooler the Evolv ATX isn't bad if he's going CLC or AIO cooling I strongly recommend that he does an about face and run away. Case of the Year award was given to it prematurely or reviewer knew of the cooling issue and were negligent and dishonest by awarding it. There are multiple threads that go into detail about the causes of the high temps and band-aid fixes. Whoever it was that had chip on their shoulder towards Phanteks on these forums I owe an apology because never before have I been burned badly by a case. It's still in pieces since I've given up halfway through fixing the airflow issues.

@Gmr_Chick Fact: your not smarter than me, you don't work harder than me, your not more educated than me. You were born in a nicer place than me, a country with the most powerful economy in the world. You afford in a blink of an eye things we can never get where i am.
I worked very hard for 2 years to afford a computer, that is nothing that most reviews and the entire internet advertises it to be. If for a second a product that you buy is not what it supposed to be, you can get a new one - just because you can.

@Kuresu I don't know where you live, however i don't think you need anyone's advise to build a computer.
The parts that you chose are very expensive. So take whatever high end parts you want, and put them together. Impossible to go wrong.

Generally, system building advise can be for absolutely everyone.(this much is true)
I am more inclined to read, or even throw my opinion for budget builds. People with little money that stress so much to make every cent count, to a result of best performance.

When your attitude is like "what's the most expensive consumer gaming card out there? - The 1080ti- i'll take it!" ... but why ? ...."because i can afford it".
At this point advise is redundant.

*Would not have jumped in to say a word on this thread, unfortunately for me i did not read carefully exactly what parts OP was choosing.

This has nothing to do with where you live and how much you work. Don't try to throw people into some sort of weird guilt trip if they don't agree with you.

Your whining is getting out of hand. I have never seen you do anything but complain about AMD. You bought one of their most expensive CPUs even after you had a "horrible" experience with one of their GPUs as well and became convinced they are absolute trash. Yet , despite that , you kept both of them. If you aren't a massive troll then I don't know what you are.

I've had major issues with every one of them , Intel/Nvidia/AMD. Do you see me litter threads with nonsense trying to sway people away from all of them ?

@Gmr_Chick your not more educated than me

Oxymoron aside , this isn't the place for insults or to get personal. Stop.

Um...what does that have anything to do with the discussion? But since you decided to go that route... Let's go.

Just because I live in the United States doesn't automatically make me more affluent than somebody in another country -- this is a general misconception about Americans. No, we are not all fabulously wealthy. Another thing, I'm disabled (practically blind in one eye and the "good" eye isn't much better) so I can't work. Hell, I can't even drive a car. I live my with retired parents, in what's probably the most expensive place in the country to live right now. So no, like you, I can't exactly afford to piss my money away freely on computer parts either. I can't just tell my folks to buy another $200+ CPU/GPU if the first one doesn't turn out the way I want it to, "just because". Grow up will you? You aren't the only one with problems you know.

Okay, you've all had your say, no more personal bickering please. I don't particularly want to start deleting posts and thread banning people. All opinions here are valid. I don't know how Cvrk has had such a bad experience but I also don't particularly want to censor him, he's had a poor experience, but on the other hand a lot of us have had very good experiences with Ryzen.

At this moment I'd hold off buying the 1800X, simply because the new generation of Ryzen processors will be released fairly soon, which should clock higher and have slightly better ipc.. If you want an Amd system I'd recommend to get a 1700 now and replace it when Zen2 is released. I love my 1800x, but I bought that early on and have already had my money's worth out of it.

An 8700K system would be good as well, you get your money's worth of performance out of either platfotm imo.
