I like the quad, buy I don't know what that sound card is worth.

I say do it!

But you got to figure how much can you get if you sell your chip and hte sound card, the Q9650 is the King of quads and just came down to 300, if you can swing that , then that is your move, it will give you 4G with low volts. :rockout:

Take that deal.. assuming the Q9450 isnt a POS and will clock decently. That quad should be good for 3.6 if you have the cooling for it.. at that speed it would be better for gaming than the E8400 even if you clock it to 4.5.

Multithreaded games are coming.. I'd get the quad (assuming its not fucked)

That Xfi is worth about $60 used. So it sounds like a good deal!!

The better question here is... Why does he want the 8400?

most likely because that quad doesn't clock. Trade is not a good idea unless its something like a case IMO. but then again im pretty risk averse when it comes to hardware. The difference between a quad at 3Ghz and an e8400 at 3.8 is pretty small in most cases. now if you clock it to 3.6 its a different story.

Yeah i was thinking that maybe the quad wont clock in that prefab system and he just wants something with a high clockspeed.

Take it, Q9450 is a good CPU and is even better when OCed, and soon gaming will take advantage of the cores.

Yeah plus the Egg still charges shipping and "handling" for customs. Newegg is useless for Canadians IMO. Ncix.ca will always beat their and wont charge an extra 8% for customs. I know its not the Egg's fault but still...

they are not producing the Q9450 anymore because it has a major fsb wall at aound 3.6ghz IF you have a P45 board that will clock it like the high end P45's anything under that will not clock it that far. I say if your ok with that get it it will outperform the E8400 at the same clock speeds but the E8400 will clock higher.

Take the trade. You can use onboard audio for now and can save up for a new sound card if needed at a later time.

As someone who owns both cpu's, see my system specs (E8400 @4Ghz on desktop and Q9450 @ stock 2.67Ghz on laptop) I'd say go for the trade and take the quad.

Even with my clock differences, I don't see much difference in performance gaming-wise (though the laptop has sli so gaming is obviously better than a single 8800GT). Vista loads slightly faster on my desktop. Games run better on the laptop...

AND you can oc the quad (unlike me since the bios of the sager 9262 is locked).

Also, on the laptop quad I can really multitask, in the sense running antivirus scan, antispyware scan, burn a dvd, defragment... you mention it.... and performance isn't affected the least.

Edit - I forgot to add the Q9450's got 12MB L2 cache - that's twice the E8400's.
