Well guys/girls i retired my old daily driver about a month ago and have been slowly configuring/ordering/waiting on the new one. My gpu arrives today and my cooler arrives next wed or thursday and that will finish her off
Anyway, I'm not a panel or pixel expert by any means so i was maybe hoping for some input. I've wanted to upgrade to 1440p for a while but with my old config i just couldn't justify it (not for gaming at least)

I just ordered this:

has anybody used this panel? It has good reviews but I've never owned a ips panel although I've heard good things. Now that they are fast and (somewhat) affordable I thought it's a good time to make the jump. I'm finding myself playing more and more single player games and less competitive shooters but i still don't want to sacrifice the 144hz 1ms plus I'm looking to get back into photoshop and other creative software so the extra pixels and better color will obviously be a welcomed change.

Here is my current 1080p monitor:

I can't complain with my current one, color is less than amazing but it's fast for games which was why i bought it almost 2 years ago now. Will probably end up selling it and putting it towards a 4k tv but I'm undecided on that

Anyway, I've never owned an LG monitor and this will be my first ips/1440p so i was just curious what some of you display freaks think about this monitor and the price point, and also what kind of upgrade i can realistically expect from it in terms of real world eyeball useage

My gpu arrives today

Too bad you couldn't wait till Sept/October for a new GPU.

What are the system specs of your new system?

I got a 1440p 165Hz G-Sync monitor with RTX 2070 Super, but probably upgrade to RTX 3080 later this year.

I know I know,:banghead: I wanted to wait but I'm also tired of waiting. I like to give things a little time to "mature" anyways and wouldn't want a reference card at launch. I'm excited to see what the new cards offer but we all know the nvidia ones will be uber expensive and I wouldn't buy into RDNA2 without being absolutely positive that AMD has improved on the firmware side of things first. So realistically speaking it won't be until the end of the year (at least) until there's solid offers from both sides the way i see it. Early adopting has never really been my style especially if i have to pay a premium to do it. After the landscape develops a little bit with the next gen of gpus then I will eat some cost and just sell the 2070 towards a new one if i like what they offer that much. But for now there's too much uncertainty and time involved with waiting so i bought a msi 2070 super. other specs are x570 tomahawk,r7 3700x,2x16 gskill trident z 3600,

Fill in your system specs.... ;)

As far as realworld eyeball.. lol...what do you want us to say? IPS panels are better than most and you have 144hz now... all good things. Expect better colors, and a smooth image at 144 hz....not really sure what youre asking for on that front.

No idea on the quality of the monitor... sorry. But I always wonder why people buy then ask about a product instead of the other way around. :p

Isn't that the SRGB only variant of the GL850?
The 850 is imo the best non HDR (not that there are any real fald HDR monitors out there @sub 2k$) monitor out there, so this shouldn't be too different other than color (dunno how well calibrated srgb is).
If the overdrive tuning is the same it should be perfect for games. The fast Overdrive unlike pretty much every other monitor out there fits the entire refresh range 48-144 without any noticeable overshoot.
It was a real hassle on my older monitors having to fiddle with the monitor menu on a per game or depending on PC/console use to avoid overshoot.
I doubt it's good enough for pro photoshop use without proper calibration tools tho. If thats the main use I would look into a properly pre-calibirated 4k (hz dont matter) IPS monitor for that work as the extra work space is important.

I'll fill them in next week after the system is complete ;)

as far as what do i "want" "us" to say...I kinda already explained that but I'm just more or less wondering how other people's upgrades to 1440p went, if they thought it was worthwhile, if the differences were very noticeable, not noticeable, somewhere in between, i was thinking maybe a panel nerd would be able to extrapolate the technical differences between my current monitor and the new one perhaps. Just a discussion really earthdog. Hell, we can talk about the weather if that's what's on your mind but one thing is for certain, if you have to ask me "what do you want me to say" I don't want you to say anything. To be honest Earthdog, I didn't like your snarky attitude last time i encountered you on this forum, and I still don't like it now. I don't want to have to educate you on how to have a discussion like I did last time so just see your way out :peace: Just because i ordered the monitor already doesn't mean I'm permanently stuck with it I got 30 days to try it and return it if somethings wrong. i looked at other options but the specs are really just letters to me, i don't have experience with a punch of different panels real world so i don't know what to expect is all, but I'm excited.

Hi jesdals/Calmmo :)
Thanks for the input, Calmmo just curious, what is the proper tools/way to go about calibrating a montior these days? I've always played around with whatever monitor setting the physical interface would allow me to adjust but i never played around with software or got into too technically.

Thanks for being clear on what you were looking for. ;)

When i moved to a 27"/1440/144hz/ips from 24"/1080/60/va it was a marked imrovement. Ill never go back to 1080p/60.

I actually ended up going backwards, I had a cheap 4K screen that gave me a lot of problems (I ended up getting refunded after a lot of back and forth), ended up moving country for a bit and as such I got a 25" Dell 1440p which is still going strong as my SO's work screen.
Using a 4K screen again now, as the hard part is that when you go up in resolution, it's really hard to go back down again.
Was stuck at my parents in Sweden for 5.5 months due to the Wuhan virus and bought a pretty nice curved Acer 27" 1440p 144Hz screen and it was really nice. Considering getting one for gaming, but not sure I have the space for two 27" screens on my desk...
That said, it's painful to use 1080p these days, so even though there was a 23" 1080p screen at my parents, it was really horrible to use. To be honest, I'm not sure I could use anything below a 27" as my daily driver these days...
Considering my first computer had a 14" CRT, it's amazing how quick you get used to a bigger, better screen...

I moved up to 27" 1080p 6 or 7 years ago and will never go back to a 24", huge difference for me. Made the move to 1440p
a little over 2 years ago and the improvement in sharpness is notable. Once again I don't want to go back to 1080p. I've got a 2070 Super pushing it so I can have all the eye candy cranked. I think you're going to just love it, it is a big upgrade in visuals to me. One nice thing at 1440p I find I can turn off AA and not notice any jaggies at all. This should come in handy down the road as games get more demanding.

I think the only difference is the GL has a usb hub and the GN has a better stand.

Thanks for the input guys :]

my gpu ended up coming monday instead of friday so i got that bad boy installed. It's an absolute monster (it's got a little bit of sag going on even with the reinforced pcie slot)
I put it in without the brace because the brace that it came with is ugly. Well not ugly just doesn't look good with the white build so I'm about to just paint it white later tonight then my aio cooler and monitor both say they should be here tomorrow so hopefully i can install the aio,gpu brace, and set up the monitor all in one go tomorrow :D

What's crazy is that this system is such a massive step up from my old one that i feel like i already upgraded to 1440p because now I'm playing everything in max setting instead of sacrificing visuals to maintain higher frames on the heavier titles. I think I will be floored by this new monitor assuming it shows up working lol. I guess that's the main reason i posted this thread, I'm a little apprehensive about buying a display online I've always bought them in store and been able to see how they look first, but the reality of it was that I was never going to find a deal like this at a local shop. I couldn't believe when i looked up my current 1080p monitor that it's still selling for $300 at best buy  (i think i paid 325 for it and that was almost 2 years ago now)

Anyway, the gpu came with death stranding and i know that supports dlss so i will definitely be messing around with that first after i get the monitor. you guys got any other recommendations for games that look particularly amazing that would be a good first experience? I recently got into Forza 4 and im actually baffled by how good that game looks even at 1080p so I'm excited to play that as well

I think I miss read your comment you are asking about games?

Horizon Zero Dawn this Friday would probably be a good one if you are into that type of game.

With DLSS 2.0 he will probably be able to unless he maxes out all the RTRT.

I bought it for $34 prior to the launch, then it went up to $55 or something like that... Their pricing is really weird...

I bought a 1440P 27" IPS Acer 2 years ago. It is a great monitor, but I found that I could hardly read text as it was so small. I've had to adjust text size and "Ctrl+" has become my friend on most web pages. I kind of wish I had gone with 1080P on the 27", but I wanted the additional pixels on the screen, but I've had to negate that benefit to make it readable. This is just my experience and your experience may be totally different.

I think you need to invest in a pair of glasses. I run my 4k screen at 125% scaling and can read everything just fine. No scaling needed on 1440p.

Went with 3 LG 27gl850 unfortunately one had a pixell error with all colours almost the size of this “-“ in font 11. The DisplayPort cables is to short so have to get new ones to. Looking forward to getting the longer cables next week. Hopeing for a RDNA2 killer card this fall.

nice jesdals, i hope you like them! I'm really happy with mine. Not sure what you mean by one had a pixel error if you are still waiting for them? the display cable is definitely short but i already had a couple quality ones on hand, i just took it as a bonus that the monitor even came with a back up displayport cable, alot of monitors don't, including my last one

That's cool, glad you are having fun. division 2 looks pretty fantastic doesn't it? the level design is really good. I've been playing it a fair bit lately my only complaint is the fog. they use it wayy too much imo. I can understand using it to create a vibe once in a while but they went overkill with it, takes away from the nice renders when it's foggy 30% of the time. I don't see why there isn't an option to turn it off
