I can't say I'm excited at all by the idea of a ME5, considering Andromeda looked to be worse than ME3 and I couldn't bring myself to play it.

It really was so, I picked it up for the low, low price of $5.00 (really, they're practically giving it away now), and couldn't make it 2hrs played to date. Normally games would introduce characters, do a little world building, establish plot putting the stakes on the table, y'know basic interest generating bullet points. Not ME:A, nosiree it's: Here are the not Shepards, this is why you should care about them and other stuff, now here have at all these menial fetch quests.

I wish they make a game better than Andromeda.

It won't be the same BioWare Studio that made Andromeda so my guess is that it will be better.

Let's see how Dragon Age 4 will be, if that is better than Inquisition, then there is hope :)

When Andromeda came out it was ok but the bugs killed it for me... Then when it went on EA Access I gave it another try and I'm glad I did... It was like a whole new game.
I am excited for ME5

I don't think Andromeda was bad once it was patched but EA was the owner of BioWare Montreal and they should have managed the release better. Well, BioWare Montreal (Developer of Andromeda) got merged with EA Motive so they still work for EA but they aren't under BioWare any longer.

How someone managing BioWare Montreal missed the problems at release is beyond me.

Immersion is a fickle beast... I've found it more difficult to get there lately, a big reason being the lack of surprise in game concepts. Its a very personal thing, that, but its much easier to get immersed when a game can surprise you from time to time, Andromeda really didn't give me that... and that's when all the silly things started standing out to me.

I'm with you on that. It has been tough to get into games lately. I have enjoyed Fallen Order and RDR2 though. Greedfall was getting there too.

Same as Anthem. EA execs do a 300 "this is sparta" and kick it out the door regardless if it is ready or not. MEA was a slap in the face for them; Anthem was a kick in the gonads. I think they'll think twice about doing it again because these bad launches with "patch it later" mentality has cost them many millions of dollars they're not likely to recover from sales of the game.

True and most review sites don't do a follow up review after the game is patched so the state of a game on release should be a priority for EA.

Dunno if i trust them tbh, going from ME 1 to ME2 then ME3, did not seem like they knew what they wanted as they improved stuff in the second or 3rd but managed to make other stuff better but then messed other stuff up.

Did they fix ME4 ?, if not or they redoing it maybe interested.

Then there is the whole lot of bollocks what they did with DA, they pretty much made it what it wasn't original which is part made what it was.

As for DA, be intersted if they are going back to the roots of what actually made it good. Although they might be up to going up against DOS1\2 ( Larian Studios ) who for the most part remembered what made the first one so great.

I enjoyed Dragon Age: Origin and ME1. ME2 and then into M3, the combat drastically changed and felt more like a third person shooter game (think Gears of War) instead of staying more of a tactical/shooter game like the first one was. I thought the story was okay overall, but it never really felt like once you got into ME3 that your decisions really had any kind of weight from the first two entries. The exploration of other planets was a neat idea in ME2, but poorly executed - they just felt like big wastes of space with nothing important. I was hoping it would be fixed in ME3, but it wasn't - all planets without being part of the main story felt like little pit stops to waste time so you could go shoot more bad guys.

I was excited when the announcement of Dragon Age 2 came out and then there was a demo available to play....eh, was just some crappy hack'n'slash game play. Huge turn off. I never followed up on anything else Dragon Age after that. I don't know without looking if there was a third game to the franchise or not.

I can't say I'm excited at all by the idea of a ME5, considering Andromeda looked to be worse than ME3 and I couldn't bring myself to play it.

Took me over 8 month to bring my self to play DA3 lol.

I don't know if EA's gonna reboot Anthem but I hope they do. Otherwise no sane people will buy their future GaaS games again. And they've repeatedly told themselves and their investors how GaaS is the future.
They should grit their teeth and do a 180 like R6S, No Man's Sky or the ever-quoted Final Fantasy 14. Though various leaders from the studio already jumping ship doesn't paint a rosy picture.
And Bioware (though not the same company with the same people anymore) should just stick with fully featured single player experience in the future. Though they should finish/reboot Anthem for EA's sake.

I often wonder why dafuq did they task a multiplayer focused studio (Bioware Montreal who worked on ME3 MP which was very good) to a single player game (MEA) and vice versa to Bioware Edmonton and Anthem.

The real question is, can EA execs be convinced Bioware should bring a narrative focused game instead of yet another mildly interesting TW3 clone.

Hell with Cyberpunk in the works and the Outer Worlds/Fallout hypes maybe they'll go first person next and 'wow' us all... :p

Typical EA mismanagement. Studios are disposable resources for them.

BioWare says they are working on a revamp of Anthem from the ground up. I think that's the only way to save Anthem. They also say they are working on a Dragon Age 4 so they have a lot on their plate right now.

EA can go to hell for killing of so many creative people, chances of Bioware convincing EA yeah forget that they have their heads to far up their asses although would love to see them prove me wrong.

I don't mind clones as you call them as long as they are done right, lets face it most games have been done before.

DOS1\2 by Larian all been done before and both great games in their own right, in fact closer to what NWN1 was than NWN2 was to what made the game so good to play.

Looking forward to Cyberpunk tbh

They should be working on what made them in the passed not what helped them to go deeper in the hole so to speak.

Its not that I mind clones, but look at the ME trilogy versus Andromeda. The trilogy felt fresh, it took us on a real journey and was captivating, and the gameplay connected quite well with it. Andromeda felt like Inquisition in space., tick all boxes to continue, get your 100%. There is a time and place for certain game concepts. That open world is really for games a'la GTA or Far Cry, where the gameplay is whatever you love doing in it and story is secondary. But really, for something like this... The Outer Worlds is another such game where it feels out of place, and you can see that the game/quest design didn't really need those open areas; in the end, you're still doing mostly linear sequences after all.

The reason DOS1/2 are good is in part because they're exactly not open worldy, but linear and carefully managed. And even so the game still offers a degree of freedom which hinges entirely on how the quests are designed. And even in a great game like The Witcher, the open world helps immersion, but does not really help the narrative. Its just there, but what really makes the game is the quests and dialogue they put into it.

What you described would have off the bat made for a much more interesting story. I clearly missed or didn't get that far enough in see the bit where they were the last alive from the milky way, the impression was the milky way was suffering from overcrowding then as a solution the andromeda initiative was created as a seed project. You don't get to be picky when the pickings are slim. Heck the overall tone before disaster struck was one exploration not dire circumstance.

Those gaming companies are doing the same mistakes over and over again... The idiots really don't understand it's NOT the graphics that matter for a quality game, but is it's STORY and GAMEPLAY. The story was the main selling point for Mass Effect series, for the first 2 Dragon Ages, for NeverWinter, etc. If you just make a game with almost zero story and flat gameplay, nobody is going to be impressed with that shit, even if it has the latest in graphics, etc.

Emmm

Crysis begs to differ... and Unreal, UT'99, Quake... want a list? Although, they do also tick that gameplay box.

In a general sense though you're right - unless you bring a totally groundbreaking improvement, you'd better focus on what makes the game tick. But its not graphics that devs put the focus on, in most games that is now thirteen-in-a-dozen lookalike stuff because underneath its usually the same engine and/or the same tricks.

Its the concept that gets rehashed and not built from the ground up nowadays: look at the MOBA spree. Look at PUBG and its spinoffs. The copying is done on the concept of the game and nobody gives a damn about graphics. You don't play Fortnite for graphics. And it also happens in SP games: look at Ubisoft's eternal tower-unlock-sauce in an open world generally segmented by another layer of 'story' - story that is a mess of splintered dialogue spread out across map markers. It was so prevalent in gaming that even CDPR copied it for TW3, sans towers, but with segmentation. You unlock new maps to progress, and the maps themselves are segmented by creature level too. The game has never required any of that, and its prequels never did. TW3's level scaling really has no place in the game, except making you grind for new gear.

Start looking at games like that and the ugly gets out underneath: there is no real creativity on the level of the game's concept. There is no over-arching 'talent' to be seen in the whole game. This happens a LOT. What we dó get, is the smaller bits that are good: a single questline that is put together very well. Small bits of story that stick. The rare dialogue/sequence that was meant to capture you.

Its not surprising I mean we've had só many concepts explored by now, its hard to think of something new. But still, the trend is clear, copying happens way too much, and there is definitely more 'playing it safe' in game development. We buy a lot of GTA and RDR2, so we get open worlds, no matter what.

Agree 100%. That been said, I would still want a re-do of the First 2 DEUS EXes with the best game engine out there, since I would really love to experience the atmosphere (latest graphics) not just the gameplay and story, which were the best of any game to date. Same for Unreal and first 3 Mass Effects.

I'd like to play an HD remake of the original Deus Ex as I never played that.
