Kyle over at HardOCP has sent a card in for analysis

Hes been using his own money to buy, test and now send in for testing.

honestly, is it still going on in the now later batches and non launch cards? I havent seen alot of crying since the "blacker vs black box" "varients" were released.

Im leaning on it might be defective dice.

Its a massive GPU. Its very possible the IMC could just be designed poorly and a revision is needed?

Yep! Exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned Samsung's dieing (cdawall posted that link earlier). :)

Quite possible I think (at least my theory).

Also 1080 Ti has rather non-optimized memory (in terms of individual latency settings), maybe not just Ti, anyway.. I wonder if its not just bad settings in BIOS. Plus I dont know how is memory cooled on RTX or how hot it gets. Maybe someone just missed good cooling, I think eVGA did something like that not so long ago.. :D

Memory chips are not made from concrete, even when ppl like to treat them as such.

I hear if you post it early and often, people still won't read it and instead ignore facts. Then with nothing other than blind hatred to follow they over react to a wrong conclusion found in fear mongering ignorance.

i just checked my steam library.. my palit 2080ti card logged nearly 140 hours on ashes of the singularity and 130 hours on farcry 5 before dying.. this was spread over about two and a half months..

my failure differs from most in the sense it took a lot longer to happen and i did not get the oft reported space invaders..

Happy owner of a 2080 Ti here, was waiting until it's been a couple of weeks since I got the card, so far so good, no artifacts or crashing, I can push the RAM 500MHz with no issues, didn't wanna push it any further haha.

I plan on running my card at stock, no need to OC to be honest, if anything changes with my card I'll post it here.

If we're going to be all strict all of a sudden, perhaps you'd also do well to adjust this topic title a little bit. Its not exactly... neutral.

i did all sorts of things when i first got it.. being aware of potential problems it got a good testing.. on the principle of if its got problems best to find them out quickly..

are you suggesting that these cards should not be overclocked.. if so why do you think the makers supply the software to do it.. ??

The speedometer says 140... it must be that fast AND safe! :p

But seriously, I don't think he was suggesting you did it, but just asked if you OC'd the memory and added volts (though, you cannot add volts to memory without mods, etc).

the question is a bit too common.. it also carries only one implication.. :)

another answer would have been.. "of course i f-cking did" he he

I just ordered some vented PCI brackets for PC case to help cool GFX card area. My question is, has anyone test these type for PCI bracket cover vs the standard ones? What i'm trying to do here is lower the temperature of GFX card. So what i'm asking here, do vented PCI cover/bracket work & improve cooling of GFX card.

EDIT: If your PC case already has vented PCI bracket this does not count. I need to validate if these type of covers make a difference compared to standard covers which are not normally vented.

Not really, no. You would need active cooling for it to do something noticeable really. The key is airFLOW. A bit of more CFM in or out will not show much of a difference. Put a fan on them exhausting in taking in air and you will.

That's strange. You would think that a vented PCI slot which sits lower than the GFX card, the card will draw-in (cooler air) or pushout (hot air) in that area.
I will do a test when vented PCI bracket/covers get here.

Its a turbulent mess down there in most cases. You'd get better cooling putting a fan on them to exhaust or intake air. It may help a couple of C, but you will see better results with a fan, surely.

The amount of air taken in without some kind of active fan drawing it in from a vented PCI slot cover is negligible, most of the air pushed through the GPU HSF will come directly from the case, same goes with expelling more air, I mean is it supposed to both at the same time and make a noticeable differnce? I think @EarthDog got it righ, better airflow throughout the entire case will have a much greater impact than just vented PCI covers, though you could always place a fan over them to intake cool air that will get to the GPU first but that's likely going to intefere with the traditional front intake and rear/top exhaust setup that most cases/people opt for.

In case of memory OC, seems its not good idea. But who knows, might be some manufacturing fault too. Not enough data.

this all fits in with the 2080 cards having memory problems.. the reason as yet being unknown.. but cards should not have to be "babied" to keep them alive.. if these do it just shows they have a problem.. when its working the memory does seem to stand a fair overclock before artifacting..

You aware that OC is never actually recommended by manufacturers, right?

And yea, sometimes you do need to baby some parts of HW, otherwise they die. Learned that hard way.. some HW is tougher, some a bit less.

its not warned against ether so that comment is meaningless.. i use the palit software provided by the makers.. the real limits are set in the bios.. basically these things should be idiot proof.. so to be honest i think you are on the wrong track..
