Pconline have found about it. The cooler may be kind of crushing the gpu of some, ok just tolerances into play.

If I chose not to get NVidia vanilla do those cards have less reports?
That seems to be the case. I've been trying to find a tally of who is and isn't affected by this. So far I've yet to find any EVGA or Palit reports. Admittedly, I'm not actively drudging the internet. Two of my clients have 2080ti's and neither have had problems. One is an EVGA and one is an FE. You being in Florida, a safer bet might be an EVGA.

Something is fishy about these "Turings are dying" posts, hmmm

I really like the part when he says media should not be judging a case by looking at forum posts. However we all know clicky-baity titles are what gets viewed. So there is that.

So under 1k units of RTX 2080 it 0.17% for (Much less units then 2080) RTX 2080 TI its 1.4% which don't include Founders Edition since they don't sell those.

He doesnt give hard numbers but the % are higher then what GN alluded to.

So all in all only less then 2 cards of each has been RMA'd ?

Hes confusing because when he starts mentioning 1080 numbers he says they were high 7.1% & 1080 TI 4.6% and goes on to say any products for CaseKing with RMA % of 3% or less is good. Then at the end he says his team isn't seeing anything unusual with 2080 series like they are expecting to cross that barrier given time in the market?

Im more interested in the reason these cards fail than the number of them, to be honest. That will make any projection about numbers far more reliable on its own. There is no way you can tally up things by just going off random reports.

But I admit, so far it seems much ado about not all too much.

Gamers Nexus live stream today said he was getting an unusually high report of them failing then initially he thought. He started receiving the first cards his viewers have sent in.

The problem with this is, GamersNexus viewpoint is flawed. Without knowing how many have been sold, they cannot easily assess what percentage are bad. The only population of cards they see are the defective ones being sent to them.

I agree but unless AIB directly give numbers to RMA issues it will always be flawed. They will differ down the chain. AIB, reg dis, local dis, etc. Even then its unknow if all those units are in systems or sitting on a shelf.

Hi.
In light of this new evidence presented at tech yes city
i think it would be a great addition to the gpudb to have the vram manufacturer listed also in the memory section.
Is this doable ?

thing is, my model (msi rtx 2080 gaming x trio) has samsung memory. i dont have artefacting yet but bf5 stutters and freezes like crazy, really really bad.
zero stutters and freezes when i dropped 500 mhz off with afterburner. will rma. its not only micron. some comments said this has been reported by hardwareocp to affect samsung cards as well

Well VRAM info could be added in the notes of each card on the gpudb I guess, but many cards are manufactured to use any vendor. Though if you look at the BIOS database you will see that some cards' BIOS have listed which memory vendors are supported by that SKU.

This is the same info we knew a month ago...isnt it?

...who is this guy that doesnt know gpuz reads the type of memory and you dont have to take the card apart????? Honestly, I stopped the video there. Wasn't a good start...

Sidenote: just put my old gpu in the rig a msi rx 480 gaming x 8gb... Smooth effin experience bf5 no problem.. Totally unacceptable for a rtx 2080 much more expensive much more recent to have such serious problems. Dang it. Rma oh its so fun to rma.. :/

Stuff happens...to the most expensive and cheapest cards. This video adds nothing to the conversation from months ago.

RMA your card and move on...sorry it happened. :(

i ran my micron memory 2080ti for two and a half months and it worked fine then it rapidly died..

i ran my card with the memory at plus 750.. it would manage plus 850 before showing signs of artifacts.. i deliberately gave it some stick and it passed all tests with flying colours..

most of these cards have micron memory some have samsung.. i think more micron memory has failed simply because most cards have it..

the guy in the video has it about right apart from one thing.. the problem might well be initially solved by slowing the memory down.. but if my card was anything to go by it wont last long..

it isnt a gradual degrade its something that happens all at once.. once the problems start (in my case) at plus 750 the system started occasionally crashing to the desktop.. i put the memory at stock it worked fine.. but basically over a two or three day period i had to lower the memory down from stock 7000 to 6000.. it would not go any lower this gave me a few extra hours game play but in the end any attempt to put a 3D load on on the card caused it to crash straight out to the desktop.. in 2D mode it worked fine..

my first signs of something wrong was in fact a full system reset crash whilst playing farcry 5 with the machine not being able to reboot until i powered it off.. at first i didnt put this down to the graphics card but now i am pretty sure that was the time something failed on the graphics card.. things started to rapidly go wrong after that..

i now have a replacement card with a new warranty.. the guy in the video thinks "bad batch".. me i aint so sure i just think "bad memory" or something connected to the memory but its bound to be sorted before my new warranty runs out.. he he

If this thread descends into the absolute s***show that the last thread did I'm closing it immediately. Play nice and don't make any claims without factual evidence to back up your claims people. Sick of seeing 10 page long threads comprised of "I think" "He said/she said" "my buddy who totally works for NVidia told me..."

its exactly the same and as you say it is kinda lame for them to fail after 2 to 3 months..

which is why i am interested in any new information that comes out about the issue.. even if it aint considered exactly new by some it still keeps the issue alive..

It isn't new at all, Trog. That video is nearly 2 months late and offers no new information. This isn;t a 'some' issue. There is nothing new that wasn't posted in a dozen other videos in December.

The thread title here is still ridiculous friggin click bait... lol

Perfect. Running scanner OC with V/F curve and +500 VRAM since i got it. Been using it for gaming, VR and CUDA based Bioinformatics applications. I haven’t seen any problem.

After the initial batch of failures, haven't heard much of anything ... of course all all sources are not equally reliable and I tend to ignore GN and J2C. Been much quieter than say the EVGA 10xx series. But you got 3 years to figure out if you have to exchange ya card. Besides payng too much, just one of the hazards of deciding to live on the bleeding edge and be the 1st on on ya block to have the new shiny thing. Best to wait 3+ months and wait for all the bugaboos to get flushed out enjoy the less hassles and performance tweaks that come with later steppings.
