MB ISSUES with ASUS M4A78-VM

I think my MB (in an older computer) is faulty. It has an ASUS M4A78-VM MB within AMD3 CPU and 1 x 2GB DDR2 RAM stick. The PC used to work perfectly OK except the CPU fan was a bit noisy when cold starting but soon quietened down. The issues I am having are as follows;
1. Clock will not retain settings when turned off (even with power supply still ON. I replaced the CMOS battery but that made no difference. I swapped the RAM between slots and that too made no difference.
2. On POST I get the ASUS screen then beeps (2 or 3 very quick ones) and an error message on the screen telling me to press F1 for setup or F2 to use default settings. That I know how to handle, but...
3. On the monitor it says I have 1 x USB Keyboard and 1 x USB mouse (correct), but it won't initialise them and the PS2 port also does not work/is not initialised.
Since I have no keyboard or mouse working I can't do anything.

Suggestions - anything worth trying or simply get a new MB? The problem there is finding one that will take the AM3 CPU and DDR 2 RAM as everything now is DDR4.

This is only a spare computer I use for copying old video tapes for later conversion on my main PC.

One other thing - OS is Windows 7 Home (GENUINE) which before it decided to not boot up, kept telling me my copy was not genuine. Any ideas why that would happen?

I am reasonably knowledgeable about computers but I have not encountered this problem before. Help appreciated.

Perhaps helpful if I could get past the error message telling me to press F1 to run setup. I have no mouse of keyboard working so I am unable to get into the BIOS or windows or anything. All I can do is turn off or restart and just got back to the same situation. My screen says I have a Mouse and keyboard but they are not turned on so they don't work. The videos refer to the BIOS on a Graphics Card, not on the main MB. My problem is I am unable to get the computer to pass GO.

That's an known issue with AMI BIOS on Asus motherboards when using UEFI-era video cards, such as a Radeon RX 580 with a legacy-BIOS.

This does not have a separate video card. Will not boot into OS. Will not power up the mouse or keyboard. I think it's dead. Looks like I may be able to get a MB to take the CPU but not the RAM (DDR2).
