all of a sudden McAfee pops up to scan WTF?
how can that just install itself on my computer and start a scan without a single prompt

I think it also comes bundled with Java too.

It comes bundled with a bunch of shit actually.

So chances are at some point it did prompt you, you just didn't read it and clicked ok.

Sometimes when you go to install something, like Java for example. It will have a prompt asking if you agree to install another program along with it. If you speed through the install prompts one can easily miss the prompt and install another program.

Good new though. You can uninstall it.
