It's nearing that time again TPU!

I have chosen to create a new thread for those who would like to offer up donation suggestion etc. It seems as though the common feeling is to await Nortons return, which im happy to do, so please post any ideas You like here, but it seems we shall await his return to move forward with any plans etc.

Remember Dean's spirit lives on in all of those who knew Him:pimp: as well as those touched by His kindness

i take nothing but pleasure in donating my time, and effort to a noble cause like this....its the Least any of us can do. I figured I built last years PC, and would gladly accept that responsibility again, If it was needed....not to mention I live close to Norton, and transferring parts etc is easily done, if needed for some reason, plus i have the space as well.

I think a reason for me to be passionate about this, thats specific to myself is because years before I joined tech power up I visited the site very often as a guest. But it wasn't until encountering a certain member that I joined and later became more involved in the community. At that time I was a very different person and I blamed the world for a lot of the hardship in my life , it took that members generosity and kindness to help me see a different way to live and conduct myself. It's so easy to hate, but it's more fulfilling to be kind.

As i mentioned i never personally knew Dean (Kreij) but I unfortunately DO know Cancer, and I lost both of My parents as a Child to it...and if holding this giveaway, and giving back to members Some how raises awareness, or helps someone through that Shitty struggle that too many people have gone through, than im all for it.

Yeah Cancer is a real threat that not many can overcome and not down to their fault.
Still we can choose to live in bitterness or we can lift our heads and celebrate what a great person they were ;)

Put me in for a 120gb msata if the motherboard accepts it or 1tb or 2tb of those things that spin around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around around and around and around and around.

My head hurts from the spinning. How does those spinning HDs handle so much spinning. hahaha

I would do the shipping cost for this event but I haven't heard anything from Fedex for some sweat deals which they always normally do around Christmas.

That's right I forgot you were the shipping backer last time. Let me know if anything does come up in regards to FedEx it won't be for another few months atleast until this is ready .... i'm pretty sure we're going to Z170 on this build not 100% but pretty sure :toast:

Sorry not a desktop kinda guy, 100% laptop, does the Z chipset allows for overclocking?

I will yell out when Fedex kicks in those killer deals. But I think if they do it might only be for a month so I think a few months from now would be too late. I am just guessing...who knows.

Spring is a good time frame. I have a sneaky suspicion we might get more than one full PC to giveaway.

*UPDATE*
It Looks like this build might go in a Z170 Direction, unless I hear otherwise, that is the platform i will say we should expect to be building off of...

MY thinking is Quad Core (i5 for example)
8+Gb's DDR4
600Watt+PSU
Mid tower+

I think it would be best to concentrate on confirming we can gather the Core Tower components, then we can branch out into other goodies like Keyboards, mice, headphones, etc...

Also i am reminded of a question i have for Last Giveaways Winner... @Random Murderer ...How would You say the PC arrived to You? meaning, Did i package it properly, /well enough? was there any issues, loose parts, etc? thansk for the feedback

I feel this thread is a bit premature. I'm going to opt to wait for @Norton to make his long awaited return to lead the memorial build.

It may be a bit premature, I agree, but no one knows for certain when Norton will return (could be tomorrow....could be months from now). It doesn't hurt to get ideas. I personally just wouldn't put too much into what to expect the build to be as of this moment.

I guess, this specific topic would be better considered as a "reminder" of the spring build giveaway. Keep it in the back of your mind, type of posting.

I have to agree with @theonedub . I believe it is up to the team captain to ramrod these types of giveaways.

Granted, as you stated @neatfeatguy , it's good to get a head start on things and kind of get donating members to start thinking about this.

But, in the end, it should be the captain that makes decisions and setting up these builds.

then i respectfully bow out of the planning.

I will ask those who contacted me about donations, etc to wait for His return. I just thought I shouldn't sit on the offers.

Its way too soon to even think about collecting donations, etc. There has to be a lot more planning and coordination involved prior to these builds, else we end up with 2 CPUs, 3 motherboards, 2 GPUs, and a bunch of other extra parts people send but dont get utilized as intended in the builds.

The effort required to get these memorial builds is often overlooked, and its why we are all thankful to @Norton for being able to plan, coordinate, and execute the builds so successfully each and every year (or multiple times a year).

On a personal note, the Dean Memorial Builds hold a special spot in the minds and hearts of those who knew him. I do not feel its a build you volunteer yourself to manage.

well now i feel like a pile of Shit. i just thought i was offering my time to help the ball rolling. this puts a real Shitty feeling in my heart. i dont need that at ALL.

im just going to back out of this thread, Mods can close it, if they like.

i PM'd the members who offered suuport to either await Nortons return, or to do something different with theyre donations. Additionally the only reason I decided to start a thread was because I had received private messages regarding if I was in contact with Norton and what to do with donations as well as whether there was going to be another build this year or this coming year.... I thought I was helping guess I was wrong I suppose the only important thing is the traditional stays active

You have your heart/mind in the right place, that's a great thing. Don't feel bad about it. Like you mentioned in another post that something like this would be best to think about after the Holidays. We have no need to rush it. We can keep this topic around for ideas on the upcoming build. It's nice to have a spot to post what we could look for in the build so when the time does come (hopefully) things are setup and we all have an idea of what to expect.
