Well lets be frank. When anyone claims they run the game 'maxed out' that implies that they are running the game at their native resolution for their monitor and that every visual in game settings in the game menu is turned on and or set to the maximum setting.

I never use anything over 2xAA because at 1920x1080 I don't see the need to but that also means I don't play the game maxed out.

Back on topic; this game looks awesome! And Metro 2033 actually plays on my PC now with most visual settings maxed out. Back when the game released I was running a single 4870 which couldn't hardly run the game at all and when I upgraded to two 4870's the game was still not playable at higher quality settings. I had given up on the game because I refuse to play any games at medium settings but now my single 6970 runs the game pretty well with the graphic settings I've chosen. Looks way good too!

Just checked over lunch, it was in fact fully maxed out, and was getting 40-50, some dipping lower into the 30s when looking at smoke.

This was inside, and I was nowhere near to test the outside, though it does go a great deal lower.

The answer is yes, you can max this game out comfortably with a single card, so long as you dont mind not getting 60FPS+ (I try not to go under 45 in most cases in my games)

I will say that if I took every FPS in my play through and averaged them out, it would be between 38 and 40, which is about right with my overclocks. underground on average is 10-15 frames higher than being outside.

I ran the benchmark and got an average of >90fps. I can't recall what I had score on my 2nd rig, will have to rerun the benchmark and see where I land...

You are obviously cheating with the 3x 7970s. That is a very expensive rig.

Also, wouldn't your monitors be 5760x1200 instead of 6036x1200? unless you have another 276x1200 monitor on the side somewhere.

7950 doesnt run it...

BS, don't go by the TPU Metro2033 bench. It's the only one in their database I don't pay attention to because they insist on enabling all the garish looking, FPS sapping blur effects.

I blame it mostly on 4A though for making such a high resource game with over simplified graphics presets, vs letting players pick and choose what they want to enable and disable.

I've played 2033 with a mere GTS 250 1GB with highest textures by disabling the blur via a file edit, pretty easy to do really.

Once I reinstall it, I will still use the file edit even with my 7970, because I really hate all that blur they force you to use on highest settings.

The armor is still useful if you want to play with combat, but IMO it's too easy to battle Nosalis and Lurkers, both of which can be knifed even on higher difficulty if you're quick.

My monitors each has a res of 1920x1200, so three of 'em add up to 5760x1200, that's undeniable. But with bezel compensation, it adds up to 6036x1200.

I think that because the Homo Novice got exterminated in the first game, less mutants are driven into the tunnels (which happened mainly in the stations on the edges of the network anyway). Plus what happened between the factions in the first game (think of "Frontline") was just the beginning. However, at some point Artyom might go on some quest so the player might not need to seek much direct confrontation with "humans".

now with the new cards available that doesn't even pan out. lol


we'll see how it goes, they clock pretty well so with 2 in sli I might just be able to hit the menu screen. If I'm really lucky it might just let me edit and save a setting.

2 480s should be able to handle the game well enough. When I still had my HD 4850 in use it handled the game at high settings in DX 10 well enough (okay, I am still at 1280x1024, which helps a lot). My current card (HD 6670) runs Metro 2033 at normal settings though, to improve the in-game minimum framerates (the card is slightly less powerfull).

That voice acting sounds like the VA of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, although it is a huge mistake to not use either actual Russian or regular English dubs instead of this wanne-be-eastern-European nonsense. It makes the trailer bad.

IMO if they were going to hire an american to fake a russian accent then they could have at least hired Kyle Myers from FPSRussia. at least it would have been semi more entertaining that way.

Looks pretty good. On the narrative, I've never been enthralled by any GSC or 4A voice acting, and it's just a vague pre launch ranger guide. It matters more how actual in game voicing is done.

As I said before, still no mention of NV. Why would they keep emphasizing disabling and destroying light sources and not so much as show NV being used? Obviously it's only an advantage if the player can actually SEE. There were places in 2033 where it was a LOT harder if you didn't locate NV goggles and/or a gas mask to use an alternate route.

I also recall having to restart one level because I didn't have the pneumatic rifle to silently kill the guy on the tracks that warns others when you're on the mining cart. Without doing that you can easily get killed by the barrage of fire you take from all the guys you pass by on the loading docks.

So far I'm not convinced this will play much different from 2033. I was hoping mutant battles would be a bit less scripted and easy. There were moments with the gargoyles and librarian where you're saved by scripted rescues or could just run past and save ammo.

Without doing that you can easily get killed by the barrage of fire you take from all the guys you pass by on the loading docks.

Throw a grenade, so they will seek cover. Meanwhile you will pass them by.
