This is rather unusual story, at least for me, but according to a statement made by Michael Bay, producer of Transformers, Armageddon (1998) and other movies, Microsoft wants both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc to fail "so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads."
That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth.
I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!
The story will finish with your opinions?

I was reading Google News and you can see that M$ is really trying to be the dominate computer everything. Thank god there is companies like Google who are fighting back.

I don't know guys, maybe digital downloads is the way to go. but even then I don't see how that would take the place of a physical medium like hd-dvd or bluray. oh and about you guys saying Microsoft is trying to dominate everything, well I guess thats true but isn't sony/toshiba/google trying to do the same?

what a dick he thinks he knows everything as usual dont care if you dont do Transformers 2 coz a better director will do it and not make the mistakes you did.

Stop whining about Blu Ray its expensive and a waste of money, sorry but a hd dvd player is cheaper by far and there is no difference in quality at all. To be honest if he was talking about storage then its still cheaper to do it other ways, for example if i have a large collection of music and i want to take it to my friends im gonna put it on my mp3 player or removable/usb/esata/firewire hardrive.

Really who is gong to buy a blu ray player for thier pc? or a hd dvd drive for that matter but at least pc users can buy the xbox addon coz its compatible and really cheap.

None games except ps3 shitty mc shit fanny bawz, really none pc games use hd dvd/blu ray disks.

Who cares if Microsoft want to move to downloads as long as dvds are still around who cares.

SONY SHOULD STICK TO TVS AND SOUND DEVICES eg MP3, STEREOS ect thats what it used to reign at but look since it focused on crushing Microsoft its other products have decreased in quality.

LOL AT SONY ITS VIAO LAPTOPS USE MICROSOFT WINDOWS SO THEY BASICALLY PAY THEIR COMPETITION, dont even try to compete with Microsoft ever since the ps3 came out they have been trying to replace windows forget about it.
What about the war between walkmans and apple ipods lol walkman was the brand of choice for cd players tapew players and then ipod crushed it.

I used to like Sony it was like a quality product now well its neglected some of its other divisions.

If this statement by Bay is indeed true, MS just seems to overbearing in the many markets that its in. I mean come on, all digital downloads? That just sounds ridiculous, the idea doesn't even seem like it would take off.

Its been taking off quite well on Xbox Live Marketplace:laugh::laugh:

All the Movies and Movie trailers are really starting to pick up now.
And with this the Blu Ray and HD DVD movie studios are backing up the digital downloads service so its a win win for Microsoft lol:laugh:

would make sense - lower costs, no packaging. makes sense. plus i have seen both blu and HD right next to each other, i couldnt see any difference at all - so of course i would go for the cheaper one!
any way not liked any of his films.

Anyway, this isn't really a conspiracy. Microsoft is working a a digital movie service just like iTunes... Its not like MS is just going to sit around and let Apple reap all the benefits. HOWEVER, wether MS is trying to corporately screw with the movie industry, that's something that like Michael Bay said, "Only time will tell".

Personally I think it would be stupid of us to call him wrong, because we really don't know either.

Also, in my opinion we are quickly approaching the downfall of media on discs or vhs, or any other type of device. EDIT: Things like the Apple TV (Apple TV) are proving this everyday, even though its price doesn't represent it to be ready for a large consumer base. I will personally be happy to see the demise of VHS and Disc, I hate how much space a large movie collection takes up in one's house, I also hate how they always tear up (scratches, misuse, abuse, ect...)

He's a director that has negotiated "performance related" contracts with the sudios. He gets PAID more if greater box office, or format, sales. He's "pissed off" because he fears the corporate decision might cost him that extra Ferrari for his summer house.

There is no intelligence, or goodwill, behind his comments. Only greed.

Who in their right mind is going to believe that crap? What about his previous ranting that BR was superior and that he wouldn't do Transformer 2 for HD? Then turn around and changed his mind! Some of you are simply gullible! Just because you like Transformers doesn't mean what he says makes any logical sense in the context in which he implies. The level of hypocrisy has reach an all time high here. Some of you believe this but scorn news from inquirer. If this news came from the inquirer you would have scorn, flamed, and moan until the thread was locked.

Mr. Bay states that his movie looks "superior" on Blu-Ray.
Since both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD can use the same codecs (MPEG-2, Microsoft Video Codec 1 (aka VC1, WMV HD, etc.), H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC) why would this be the case?

Due to the tighter track pitch (.65 for HD, .85 for Blu-Ray) Blu-Ray is capable of storing more data than HD, but if that data is the stored in the same video format (codec) why would it look any different?

Unless the studio making the disks is using an inferior codec, I don't see how there would be any difference.
