Microsoft announces HD-DVD addon for Xbox 360

Now it is official, Microsoft will be releasing an external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360. They statement even went into the question of pricing and mentioned that the drive will be made affordable, but did not reveal how much the drive would cost. Another interesting point is copy protection, as it will go thru the Xbox 360, there is no HDMI output, does that mean no HDMI based HD television is needed to show HD content? Sony mentioned once that they would possibly offer Blue Ray drives and players without copy protection. Time will tell.

I don't like the idea of an external drive on a console. However well they design it it will make the 360 uglier. Will future consoles be sold with built in HD-DVD support?
