Didn't see this one coming. I hope that as first order of business, they put the creation engine out of its misery.

I don't see any way this can possibly benefit the consumer. Bethesda was already a powerhouse in the business, so they're not hurting for resources. I'm afraid all this will do is encourage platform-locked titles and eliminate the modding community that has really been the base for so many Bethesda products over the decades....

I disagree, I think Microsoft is taking gaming more seriously now and sees great value in it long term profit wise, I don't think they will harm the development or creative processes of developers or end users like they did in the past. Xbox PC Game Pass and recent games like Ori and it's sequel, and re-masters of my favorite games like age of empires series, there is a lot Microsoft is doing right imo.

I have to disagree, literally every game coming out on the Xbox Series X has a PC version. I believe this will be a great opportunity for a good studio to continue to make great games for Xbox and PC.

I rather Microsoft goes after bigger studios than gobbling up smaller ones. If they make big purchases at least it means they are committing.

Zenimax media (what we like to call Bethesda) was mostly owned by an equity company which sold to Microsoft for 3x the value of the company based on their 2017 numbers. The consumer is Providence Holding equity, we the video game players (our wallets) are the product. The games are the service they use to get our money.

I don’t see the Microsoft of today doing that. They’ve been pretty open with their games lately, even bringing them to Steam. I think they’re just making sure they have a good selection of games to feed Xbox game pass in the future. I think they’re betting hard on games as a service.
I wouldn’t even be too surprised if they try to bring Xbox game pass to PlayStation in the future.

netflix for games that you can download in full and not stream is the future. and Microsoft is doing a great job at it. i cant afford $60 crusader kings 3 right now, but I can afford the $5 a month xbox pc pass. soon to be $10, which is fair imo.

they are gathering content for their streaming service ala Netflix, HBO, Amazon.

netflix for games that you can download in full and not stream is the future.

Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Sony all have streaming services in the works. They don't want to be the next "blockbuster" when it comes to gaming stream service so streaming is definitely coming to PC games. Not saying you have to play games via stream but if the largest companies in the world are all looking to do it...they will make sure it won't fail

Xbox Series S - 512 GB SSD.

MS knowns where it's heading - all-digital box for subscription game streaming.

Buying AAA studios takes them closer to that goal.

im sure they will (at least for some time) my point is more that MS is in need of content for their service that they can make exclusive if need be (somewhat similar to epic game store)

That's why they have 2 different version of the next gen consoles, that can accommodate which path you want to go.

I agree with @lynx29
For $5 per month you really can't go wrong, bearing in mind the high prices of AAA games. This will add even more value to GamePass.

How about making the base game great instead of making modders the base of mediocre games.

Someone pointed out though that MS now owns Obsidian and Bethsoft, who owns Fallout...

If they have $7.5 billion to buy Bethesda, they can pretty much buy anyone in the AAA space.
