Microsoft Corp. today unleashed the SideWinder X8 Mouse, offering wireless freedom with wired performance with a 2.4GHz wireless connection that is built for lag-free play. The latest SideWinder mouse features an innovative play-and-charge system to ensure a nonstop gaming experience — up to 30 hours of active gaming on a single charge — with no need to stop the game to change batteries. The SideWinder X8 Mouse is a top performer thanks to Microsoft’s new, proprietary BlueTrack Technology that gives this mouse the best frame rate, speed and acceleration on the market and a tracking range from 250 to 4,000 dots per inch (dpi).

$99 for a mouse, what's next $75 for a mouse pad? The prices and mark-up of alot of hardware these days is rediculuos, perhaps fueled by people saying " $100 isn't bad for what you get" it's a mouse people.

There's no way it'll stay at that price for very long. Most top-end Logitech mice come out for about the same.

Can someone please tell me if they've ever experienced any "wireless lag"? I've had 3 wireless mice over the last 10 years and the only lag I've experienced was due to a wireless router's frequency or a slow graphics card.

Looks interesting. What all does the "puck" do? Looks like there may be some buttons in there (or are those just the replacement feet?).
For those crazy enough to preorder and pay $99.99 (but hey you get free shipping @_0 ).

  • BlueTrack Technology. The world’s most advanced tracking offers next-generation tracking technology for gaming with image processing of 13,000 frames per second, 75g maximum acceleration and 120 inches per second maximum speed.
  • 2.4GHz wireless. The device is built for lag-free play with virtually no latency.
  • Play and charge. Get up to 30 hours of active gaming on a single charge, or use the play-and-charge cable for nonstop action. The winding cord management system offers easy charging — simply unwrap the cord from around the storage box and snap it onto the underside of the mouse.
I've got a friend that'll need that! So it works when you throwing it across the room, LoL. Would 75G's help with impact ; P

LoL! Wrong topic?

That mouse actually looks pretty damn nice. But only 3 settings from 250-4000 dpi? Those are some pretty big steps there . . . oh well, at least you can fine tune with windows. :ohwell:

or any 2.4ghz wireless networking equipment . . . which just so happens to be the most popular frequency for wireless networking :banghead:

Every time I walk past my window with the cantenna while talking on the house phone it gets fuzzy, then add my wireless mouse/keyboard combo when I'm doing stuff at my desk and shit really hits the wireless fan.

This looks damn nice, don't get me wrong, but I thing I'm gonna wait to see what Logitech will be offering in terms of next-gen tracking technology and special mouse features. Though I like the looks and features, the previous sidewinder was uncomfortable for me. I sure hope the next Logitech mouse uses that play-and-charge idea, because I love wireless mice, but also do a lot of gaming. Right now I'm using my so-far favorite mouse, the G9.

micro? like a microwave-oven?

if that's what you meant, i either don't experience it or don't notice it because the only time I'm aware of the microwave being used is when I'm in the kitchen and I'm using it or see someone else doing so.

>>DPI switching. Instantly switch sensitivity among high, medium and low with one click, ranging from 250 to 4,000 dpi.

Pretty nice for Excel or ultra low res gaming :laugh

I wish someone like logitech would step up with at least 14000 dpi for high res gaming.

i noticed the loss of lag when i switched from a wireless logitech to a wired gaming mouse.

no matter what they claim you cant beat a wire for low latency.

looks ok and has good features for its price imo.

Yes i mean microwave. When i used to steal internet through a wireless card and somebody used the microwave i would lose signal instantly. My best friend though i was kidding and never believed me. Well now he lives in an apartment in Dallas and has to steal internet and when he uses his micro he loses signal to and dosent think its so funny anymore.

Hrm, maybe that explains the random outages from my neighbors internet. I should go over to my neighbor's and be like "I'm gonna be playing gmod for the next couple hours, don't use the microwave kthxbai"
