I never understood why she is a feature on actual PC Windows. It's not something most of us use in the context. It should be disabled by default.

I have used Cortana on Windows Phone for years now, and in that context she is an incredibly useful addition that I actually prefer over Siri.

I totally agree. On a phone it makes sense. But for anything else, she is not so useful

I didn't think of that. My uncle sucks at typing and texting, so he uses that Dragon software and the assistant on his phone. Good point

yeah, that login has always annoyed me. im certain google is Loaded with searches for "how to disable windows 10 log in screen" etc. Mine is set to auto log, and even though my system is all SSD, i still see it for a split second....also, cortana should get the Axe IMO. I understand the reasoning of it, but maybe they could make her a Feature add on, etc... id love it if i could check a box, and poof!

Tangential, but this is were all the machine learning applications might finally pay off. My sister is paralyzed from the neck down and she has had a hard time finding voice control/voice to text programs you actually want to use. Some time ago a MS dev somewhere (on a show or something) told Cortana to reply to a mail with an attachment, and he said essentially "Reply OK, attach file.pdf" and it worked. That is the Tony Stark future I hope will come, but applied on a larger scale. The bad thing is all the data analasys that is essential to the concept, and the contents of that data, which is people. I still don't know if I think whether it's worth it or not.

The downside with voice to text is if you have private things to write. I write a lot as a way to assemble my often vastly chaotic insides and I'd hate it if I would have to say everything I wanted to write, especially if I had constant attendence from someone, like my sister needs.

I use Cortana to search the web and stuff. Want to find a good place to eat in town...I'll ask Cortana right from my desktop. Need to calculate some figures? I ask Cortana. It's actually pretty cool not having to type anything in.


Speaking of this update. I do not keep up on this stuff at all and last night Microsoft pushed the update through to me. My only choices were to remind me, schedule for later or do it now. I hope this update does not cause performance issues.

MS just loves having that extra bit of user info, remember when before creators there was the switch? Personally I love the regular search bar and I haven't found a need for Cortana myself.

Nope, still shows the "Sign in" nonsense screen. Why the fuck do I need to click a button when there is no password? Just go directly to desktop you stupid OS.
