Meet the new BSoD – the Blue Screen of Despair

As the Windows 10 free upgrade period draws to a close, Microsoft is stepping up its operating system's nagware to full-screen takeovers.

The Redmond software giant confirmed today it will start showing dark blue screens urging people to install the latest version of Windows. The full-screen ads will pop up on Windows 7 and 8.1 desktops from now until July 30, when the free upgrade period ends.

Meh, honestly I am not surprised. It'll be nice when the upgrade period ends tbh, I even admit that as a 10 user. People have made their choice by now and don't need to be prodded anymore.

While it's not that hard to block these upgrade notifications for the tech savvy, I can see this being a complete nightmare for the average user, I have lost every shred of respect that I had for Microsoft with Windows 10, they are just as bad as Apple to me now, it's just too bad there is no viable alternative to Windows for me.

Honestly, there is absolutely no reason not to do it. At least that way, you get your foot into Windows 10 without any cost. If you don't want to use it, running the older version still works AFAICT but, in all candor, I do think that Windows 10 is perfectly fine for what I use it for (games,) and I find it just as stable as Windows 7 was. Not that I want to go jinxing it but, I have yet to encounter a BSOD with Windows 10 that wasn't my own doing.

Reasons why not to use Win10:

Telemetry of your private info including contacts and emails.

Using your PC as an update server to other users.

Using your internet bandwidth without your permission.

Deceptive tactics to force upgrade to users who want to opt out.

Those are the only valid 2 imo and the rest can be turned off without BS registry tweaks, for whatever reason everyone assumes that the edition they are pushing is the tech previews for whatever reason. They have fucking buttons that allow you to shut off or uncheck this stuff. And while I do see these 2 reasons as the onyl valid points.

A: I dont even use Windows mail so this isnt an issue.

B: this only affects people that havent upgraded. While it is shitty for people not running 10 its not windows 10 ITSELF.

My main objection to Windows 10 is not in it's spying nature (which isn't really that spywarish at all but more just annoying), but in microsoft's insistence that you need it, on pain of death.

That and automatic updates are a bit harder to turn off than they should be. Group policy is not exactly easy peasy for the average joe user.

Both of these things are very much valid. I will defend the OS make no doubt but only as far as it will let me. The nagging isnt part of it (though I shame MS for it) but the driver updates irritate me. I have a work laptop an elite book with built in Intel graphics. it honestly works fine. but for w/e reason in the intel CP when the amchine is on battery power it will reduce my refresh rate to 40hz. Which my screen cannot handle. So when i unplug every 5min it will distort and discolor until i change the setting back and reboot (intel doesnt reload settings after hitting apply only saves the config, driver still runs on previous settings when it comes to power management) every time windows updates the driver,
