I was really thinking what are the minimum requirements and if gta 4 needs direct x 10 compliant graphic card. Since it is a great game and the main character is albanian i would really love to play that game :D

I ran it on a P4 with a 7900. Did show some major artifacts but was somewhat playable. Didn't play past the intro though. I don't think my boss would have allowed me to play all day on my work computer.
Seeing your system specs, I don't think it'll work very well on your machine, perhaps on 800x600 or something but I don't think that's something you should be wanting. Something like a 8600 and basically any dual core CPU would probably run it somewhat reasonable. (without too much eyecandy of course)

I'm playing it with a DX9 7950GT TDH 256MB, and it sucks!

It can only run in 800x600 with everything on the lowest settings, and it's STILL sluggish

So unless you can get hold of a way better card than mine, I wouldn't bother

As others have mentioned, with your current specs - it would simply be painful to play. Save your money.

GTA4 has possibly the worst-optimized game/graphics engine ever. It really does need a beast of a rig to run, but it isnt even that visually appealing. My rig can play Crysis perfectly, and I get very acceptable bench scores on my hardware, but it still struggles at times in GTA4 - sometimes going as low as 15/20FPS with everthing maxed out.

You will need to seriously upgrade your hardware in order to be able to play it at a decent resolution and detail. Once you do, enjoy it - its a great game.

The game can look stunning at a high resolution with the AA mod applied, search around for screenshots.

It ran ok on my 2nd rig (listed in the signature.) Played with low graphics on 1360x768 res. Shadow quality on medium. It ran at about 25 fps.

There were some texture issues and anyways the game is more optimized for nVidia. You just be able to play the game..

But it will be running on the edge on your PC ( sorry for the bad news) but hey look on the bright side... even on low graphics GTA IV looks splendid and looks better than GTA San Andreas lol.

Btw i played the game on XP SP3.

The main character in GTA 4 is Serbian (or depending on who you're talking to, Croatian, he speaks Serbian though)

I can't even play the multiplayer because it really slows down in that, I can play the singleplayer fine though. I run it at 1920x1200 though because the game has so many jagged edges and there's no AA.

In a game like GTA4 if you are concerned more with jaggies than gameplay then go end yourself.

My g71gx with low quality and high res got 20 fps average, game was a problem so i never really tuned the quality according to res so yeah 1024x1280 with low quality 20 fps yet better to look on modding sites if they have custom tools to improve performance for pc they might remove extra stuff during game play, hit em up! gtagaming.om or somehing

I ran the game with a 9400gt w/512mb vram, athlon 64x2-3.1ghz and 4gb of ram and managed to run it mostly on low with a few medium selections. I had so much fun with the game though, i mean it was a little jaggedy but I didn't care. The game was so much fun in both sp as well as mp that I overlooked those graphical woes. I remeber flying into the statue of liberty in a helicopter with my friends...ahh good times. :toast:

Sigh off to writing my paper on the third crusade

Playing this game on a Dual core ain't all that great either, unless if you have an overclocked E8400.

I guess you could play with this mod:

http://www.thegtaplace.com/downloads/f4670-gta-iv-compatibility-mod

GTA IV Compatibilty Mod:

Minimum Specifications For Mod:

NVidia 6 Series 256MB DDR2
Intel Celeron 1.8 GHZ
1GB DDR2
Windows XP SP3

This mod does not remove or delete any files. The mod will edit the video settings of the game to tun at a better speed in full screen and remain using DirectX.

It should give you GTA:SA level graphics, but you'd still get the gameplay.. I guess.
