I've suggested mods take alternative avatars before, obfuscation of persona.

IMHO if you're that angry you should time out yourself.

Important thought some are less eloquent, perhaps your taking things too harsh or too personally.

I think they're is too much of that especially if Pal gets you points:p

I'm not your buddy friend, we're All bro's ,wiggly hairs on a donut yo

Science.
I think dragons, oysters, and frogs are trademarked on the forum.

An interesting suggestion definitely. Personally I try not to moderate my own discussions (where I am just participating as a normal member) outside of spam/absolutely off-topic posts and bow out when things start getting confrontational. It doesn't feel fair to get involved, even if some take the opportunity to get off one last borderline cheap shot (some of you guys know who you are).

But, on the flip side, the counterargument is that it should not be necessary for me to pose as someone "normal". Not speaking for anyone other than myself, but as long as I don't break the rules, then you should treat me with the same respect as if I were any other forum member. You shouldn't have to fear that I'll banhammer you into oblivion for disagreeing, but you also shouldn't feel like you have a free hand to treat others badly because they aren't staff.

Question: Am I the only one who likes to look up recent posts by "deleted user #xxxx" to see why they self-destructed?
Some times you get lucky and the name slips in to some of the posts or quotes.

Damnmit, what are these points and warnings you assholes keep talking about? I got my post deleted once or twice by some snake for doing dumb shit and not realizing that the thread I was replying to was actually a wtb thread. I thought it was a ask for help thread. No points or anything. Ive had 1 lq, but it was a clarification of someone elses half response. Again, no points.

I'll further this by saying we all make mistakes and learn from them.
It's when you don't learn from them, then it's a problem.

Sometimes shit happens. Mods may get things wrong, but in my past experience in a site like this most mods will be willing to discuss the issue behind closed doors in PMs. If you've run into a rash of warnings then perhaps it isn't a problem with the mods, but a problem with the writer.

I've always been one that only really talks when I feel it's necessary. This method does one of two things for me:
1) keeps me out of the limelight because I don't like being the center of attention and I'm not a fan of sharing my personal life, even with strangers on the internet
and
2) it tends gets me into trouble because I will say the things that others won't because they want to be polite.

Many times I start replying to a topic, then I read through what I typed and think: who gives a flip about what I have to post here or I don't actually want to share this information with others, so I delete my draft and move along. I've learned to read the room really well from this approach...and again, as I type this out I'm teetering on the thought of who here really gives a flip about what I have to say and do I really want to share this information with others.....

I guess I'll go with the latter thought this time and hit post.

Now while I cannot complain about TPU mods, I'm freaking irate right now that one of my scores got nuked from the HWBOT Country CUP. I followed all stated rules:

Ofc none of the mods are awake there :p

I think someone flagged it because they are jealous of my +95% OC

Looks like you're the only active member on your team.

The submission is fine. Talk with your team captain so they can reassure you. Leeg should be easy for you to get hold of...

I've personally had zero issues here, but I keep it to the hardware. But what originally led me here a bit back was a post on overclock.net involving a guy a mod banned here, storm something and how you banned a completely different person because of how they both leaned politically. And that they had the same ISP. So I guess the one guy mistaken for storm here and was approached by in PMs a mod bassically saying they knew he was storm because storm had just been banned the ISP was the same. He had all the screens I forget who was involved.

First i guess he(fake storm) posted about it in the open here with screenshots of the convo with the mod and was instantly banned and thread locked I guess for being Storm in disguise even thought he wasnt. I know both of them and have seen their names on countless benchmarks for years. And I guess Spectrum(the ISP in question) after receiving a request from fake storm of an estimate of how many people were in that ''IP pool'' him and storm were both in and They confirmed it was like ~9 million people hahahahah!

Unfortunately it all got deleted because Oc.net didnt want to be involved. But Thats pretty bad to axe people who been around for decades with like.. almost no proof. Even more dubious when people start using wide sweeping assumptions about the political leanings of anyone imo then use that subjective opinion to silence others. But unfortunately I guess it seems some don't mind adding fuel to the fire for almost no reason and thats no matter where ya go now a days.

BUT....
Like I said no issues myself. Been pretty calm since I came over to check it out.

Worth repeating:

Shutting down a thread because someone (other than the OP) went AWOL seems counter productive to me.
Agreed. It prevents others from genuinely contributing to the topic.

Writing drafts and reading them back later when you've cooled off a bit instead of sending them straight away is a useful skill I wish everyone had. It has saved me from getting fired a good couple of times.

Storm wasn't removed because of political beliefs. It was how they posted about them. A lot. As well as other infractions.

The mod and staff team draw from very different backgrounds and beliefs. If we banned by belief, everybody would be gone.

Anyways there is that sentiment that posting on TPU is like walking on egg shells and I agree.
I would not agree. The moderation on TPU has gotten better over the last few years, not worse. The professionalism has improved. The moderator staff have become much better at being objective and impartial. Conflicts still happen, certainly, but situations like that are still much better than they once were.

I've only had a single experience from a single incident with two mods, and it was NOT professional in any way, shape, or form. Their behavior and language was unbecoming of a real moderator. Brought it to the attention of another mod. They were dismissive. I don't have polite things to say about those individuals

Eggshells is an accurate statement in my opinion. Can't tell a harmless joke. This expectation of everything must be a super contributing post is silly. How is making some silly joke, at no users expense, or any individual in the world's expense at that, a detriment to the forum? Everyone can benefit from a laugh, why not have one why browsing the forum eh? Hey, that contributed to some readers getting a laugh, that counts for something. God forbid we have fun while we're here. Can't have a topic meander into something different, like in real life. It's obvious some mods have a sick up their rear if you will. Or they read into rules far too black and white and frankly the world is not black and white. Chill out. It's a forum, not brain surgery. No one's life is in danger if thread ABC turns into more discussion about topic XYZ. Posts being marked as low quality or deleted under these guidelines I mention just now are inconsistent at best. There is room for improvement, as of right now, I would put it in a status of "leaves something to be desired".

Not trying to bait or asert anything other than what I am about to say. If you make a joke, and a few get to see it and laugh, but is later removed due to not being on topic, what is the real harm to anything other than your post count? As an ex-mod, Im sure, unless a member is a repeated jokester without contributing at all, no points get involved, so they continue life as usual on TPU?

You need to understand something about the Herr Obermeister's culture here @skizzo . You are new here.

For they take their humour very seriously. If you want to have a laugh: go to the cellar. In this case, General Nonsense. But that was moved out of the forum area to it's own website http://www.generalnonsense.net/ Doing that wasnt a bad idea since it was full of banter, pictures, and links, that was very time-consuming to moderate. Better to protect the TPU brand, and move the laughter to the cellar.

But then in good old corporate restructuring, while people were busy elsewhere, General Nonsense got quitely turned off and lives on only as a shadow in the wayback timemachine of the internet archive.

So whenever you hear about GN or General Nonsense, it is a hark back to this cultural history.

Thanks to @Tatty_Two for the link.

As an observer, I am seeing this thread becoming dominated by moderators, some more than others, defending their position, or each other, or their previous bans or infraction points. And there is a lot of member brown-nosing giving the mods +likes.

It is not a good idea for this thread to become a chatroom of members vs. mods. That's not productive.

I really think it would be better if JUST ONE moderator is charged with watching this thread, and the "conversation" stops, and the thread is used for constructive feedback, without the mod backchatter.

In a week the thread can be closed, and a summary "view of the mods" can be formally given.

That seems fair to me although one would hope jokes would be relevant to the topic or reply at hand.

Or alternatively you can go here to try this one once you have been here 3 months (I think) ..........
