Monitor for tv advice

Moved into a house, so now have to pay for power.... have to scrap my 32" crt tv. I need something that will work well probably 2ft in front of my face normally. I'm thinking a good quality 24" monitor will suffice. My current tn panel 27" pretty much sucks at tv so I need an ips type monitor at a very good price. Looking like 300-400can is the norm for 24-27" and thats too much on my fixed income. I have found monitors for a little over 200can that look ok on ncix.com, where I shop. Eyeing the LG 27MP47HQ-P simply because it's on sale, but looking more at the BenQ EW2440L, how good is A-MVA tech anyways? It's 80 bucks off and my charge card is hungry to be used.... but need to stay under 250can.

You might be looking in the wrong direction. You might want to look at TVs to use as monitors. I know this sounds odd, but the reason that TV looks bad on a lot of monitors is because the scalers in monitors suck. So when you are viewing a signal that isn't the native resolution of the monitor, which is most TV signals, the scalers in the monitor have to upscale the image to fit the panel. When you are taking a 480p or even 720p signal and blowing it up to 1080p that is a lot of missing pixels that the monitor has to make up to fill in. Usually mointors do the very basic in scaling. While on the other hand TVs usually do scaling along with post processing after the scaling to make the upscaled image look a lot better.

Get an LED TV that costs $20/yr to run and enjoy.

I use my 32" Samsung TV as my primary monitor...in fact that's the primary reason I purchased it. I had my cable, PS3 and PC all hooked up. Good to go.

4 years ago when I purchased my TV one had to look for certain specs and ratings and panel lottery's seemed a little more necessary to have a good experience. Now a days many panels are better and LED backlighting has come a long ways as well.

Go for a TV rather than a monitor for your needs.

The Vizio E32-C1 gets a great rating for budget TVs (about $350 in CAN), and has low blur and input lag, so is good for gaming.

^Note that the Samsung they picked overall has slightly better picture, but worse spec for gaming, as you either get high input lag or motion blur depending whether you have it's anti blur feature turned on.

Interesting ideas. Yes, I found out the hard way that 1080 shows look great on my monitor, the other 2 are quite fuzzy due to I assume multiple pixels being used for one.
I'll see whether I want to rack up my card that much. It might as well be better than what I have now!

Well, kind of sucks. Can't find a 1080p tv for under 400 up here. Ncix has squat, and every where else is pricey. Thankfully a lot of my chans are at 1080, so guess I'll relegate this monitor to tv use
and get myself a higher quality monitor for my computer. A nice fast ips or equivalent, since I stare at my computer more than my tv.....

Heh, just went in a completely different direction.... just racked up my charge card, one Strix gxt970 coming. Only 500can on sale after taxes and shipping. Just got tired of running a 480.....
Now just have to figure out how to pay for it.

The E32-C1 Vizio I just mentioned earlier is $350 at both BestBuy.ca and Amazon.ca.

When this brand first hit the market I was skeptical, mostly because of the low price. They've come a long way since they debuted though. I recently set up one of their 40" E series LED sets for a neighbor and was quite impressed with it.

If you're wondering, it was his idea to buy Vizio, because prior he had a Vizio plasma he inherited when his mom passed, and liked it a lot. It lasted several years too, and she used it quite a bit before he even got it.

I'll check it out after I get this 970. No point in spending a ton on a monitor or tv and still have a crappy old video card. Just wish I wasn't on a fixed income and have to use 20% interest to buy anything nice.....
