i highly recommend to spend a bit more and buy yourself a really decent one (compared to many much worse panels that are just 50 bucks cheaper)

the dell s2721dgf is one of the highest end 1440p 165Hz Monitors you can buy and it costs around 350 in the UK. (Dell S2721DGFA (15 stores) at PriceRunner • See all prices »)

I'm getting very funny looks off the Mrs when I talk about a £400 monitor, so I'll be choosing between the first 2 suggestions. Probably the LG to be honest.

I can also recommend the Dell S2721DGF, it's an LG panel. Really great 27'' / 1440p display.

Its so I don't need a new monitor when I upgrade in the future. And I do like the odd emulator or 2.

The LG 27GP850 sounds like a good choice at £298. It's an update to the 27GL850. The LG panels in this segment all have low contrast ratio, which the S2721DGF shares. It's not a big deal once you get used to it, even when placed next to a good contrast monitor.

The S2721DGF is based on the 27GL850 panel - I have one and it's good, but the main selling points are more the other stuff: integrated power supply, better USB connectivity, and Dell's premium warranty, rather than the panel itself. I'd consider it at £350.

Another choice is the Gigabyte M27Q which seems to generally be cheaper here, but it seems to be priced higher in the UK. It's a good panel but QC is hit or miss, wouldn't take it unless cheaper than GP850

As for the MAG274QRF-QD, despite all the rave monitor reviews it had some serious issues with dead pixels and MSI doesn't accept RMA below a certain threshold (~9 pixels I think?). I sent mine right back. Don't know if QC or policy has drastically changed, probably not. Mine was also cheaper than the S2721DGF so no way for £400.

LG it is then.

Just make sure you buy from somewhere you can easily return within x days if the panel isn't good on uniformity. If they're still brick and mortar like they used to be then Curry's should be great. "Try, try again" seems to be the motto for monitors nowadays.

Two of my buddies picked up the MSI monitor 3-4 months ago and neither have dead pixels but I agree and this really goes with any monitor purchase from a place with an excellent return policy. Overall it has much better contrast and color seems better than any LG panel I've seen but that can be subjective.

I have an LG GN850 which is also similar to the Dell and GP850 pretty great monitor under 300.

That's the monitor I am using, is a great screen with a LG nano IPS 165hz panel. A recommendation from me too

Going to say the same about Dell Panels

i'm almost sure there aren't Dell Panels, most likely they're just LG panels

Also, LG Electronics != LG Display.

he S2721DGF is based on the 27GL850 panel
it's a new revision that is a good chunk better across the board.
and it has less overshoot than the LG Monitor. (Hardware unboxed and others praise it as one of the best ever tested. which i can confirm after a GP850 that had massive overshoot at under 100Hz with all overdrive settings except for stock)

It has properly working Gsync compatibility and freesync pro too.

Aldo dont forget VA panels, especially if youre in a dim room and dont like bleed.
Some smear, many have better contrast than IPS.
