HI.
I'm looking for monitors with 4k res on variety of sites but I want to reach to TPU users which may give some feedback about which monitors are good etc. Also I was wondering, If I buy 4k 60Hz monitor and I would like to play 2k game. Would refresh rate of this monitor be 60Hz as in 4k? I know there are monitors with 144hz or even more but if the 4k monitor is limited to 60 wouldn't that mean that in 2k on the same monitor I will also be limited or the refresh rate will jump up?
If anybody has a monitor in use that you are happy to use please let me know of the model.
I'm looking for freesync and g-sync. Not sure about the IPS and TN. Would like to hear form users if there's that much difference in either of those mentioned. I know what are the differences and limitations of both technologies but I wanna hear from you guys how it looks :)

Thanks :)

Hi, for my personal experience with my Wasabi Mango UHD430 is 4k 60hz over dp1.2 and if you use hdmi2.0 you can get color chroma 4:4:4 , is a 10bit pannel IPS from LG and support Freesync .
The Freesync range is from 40FPS to 60FPS and if the controller inside is the same as the UHD420 at 1080p you can overclock it to 120hz but i have seen it does some frameskipping in some tests.
I play only some games at 1440p because they seem to scale good and looks like 4k and i do that if i see low performance at 4k.
Keep in mind that the Wasabi Mango UHD430 is Korean Monitor and is 43" .

Well it's quite big I'm actually looking for 30inch maximum. Either way if I get a monitor 4k 60Hz this refresh rate will apply to all resolutions regardless? I would need to overclock to get better refresh rates? If that's the case I need to reconsider my choice. i could get 2k 144Hz but then the 4k gaming goes down the drain :/ well I need to think about it and decide eventually

With your current hardware, I would recommend 1440p monitor instead of 4K. Balanced 4K system requires powerful hardware. Unless you plan to upgrade to GTX 1080 Ti or 2 x RX 580, 32 GB RAM and some newer 6-core i7 like 6800K or 8-core AMD like Ryzen 7 1700, I would strongly recommend a good 1440p IPS monitor.

From my personal experience, IPS panel offers a lot better picture quality and far better viewing angles. As a matter of fact, IPS offers so much better image quality that I wouldn't even remotely consider TN or VA panels.

Yes I do plan going 1080Ti or Vega. That is why it's g-sync and freesync I'm interested in. I need to wait a while for vega release and some benchmarks to clarify which way I will go. Just wanted to ask some questions and make a research for monitors to know more about it before purchase.
That's what I hear about the IPS panels. I'm concerned for the delays 5ms or more. Not sure how that impacts gameplay. Wanted to ask an owner of one if there is a difference in that matter.

There are some Korean Monitor that are 32" 4k from Crossover and Qnix with Freesync and you can do the same overclock at 1080p but all depends on the controller board they use.
About your question of refreshrate yes, at all resolution you get 60hz but if you overclock it at 1080p you can get 120hz but it does frameskipping .

Hmm i will really need to reconsider then getting a 4k monitor. Maybe 2k will suffice and the FPS count gets higher. Although buying a card capable of 4k gaming and not using it is foolish.

LCD/TFT type displays are not like traditional CRT monitors in that most of them don't support variable refresh rates, or at least not higher refresh rates at lower resolutions. This was a major advantage CRT monitors had, lower the resolution and you could up the refresh rate.

Why go 1080p when you can get 2560x1440? Another option would be 3440x1440, as there are some screens in this category that can do more than 60Hz. For example this https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/UM.CZ0AA.001 and this https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/UM.CZ1AA.P01
Both also features G-Sync.

I'm not talking about 1080p but 4k 60hz. the thing is that sometimes you need to lower the res cause of the frame rate drops below 60. Than switch to 2k but then with 4k 60hz monitors you want get more then 60hz in 2k. That's what I'm considering. Although 60 fps is great for gameplay on the other hand i have never tried playing on 144hz monitors to see the difference. That's what this threat is also about.

Most 4ks out now with freesync dont go beyond 75hz , you want freesync 2 as it scales better and higher.
There are some new monitors coming to market that do high hz @4k but they are expensive ,id suggest you get the best 4k you can get ,or a 144hz 1440p screen but they are not that cheap either ,are your finances limited for this purchase?

Yeah I know that one that is why I struggle. But I'm still not sure what Vega will perform like. 4k with 60 is great for me. Fsync2 still has some time to burst to the markets. I was considering 144Hz 2k but the thing is if vega will be awesome( I believe it will be sky rocking with performance) than 4k is the way to go. Within the time games will need more horse power and it would be great to switch to 2k and 144hz. But if I go with 4k that option is out of the picture ( somebody said OC monitor and go 120 hz but there are glitches). That is what I struggle with.
cash is not a problem got whatever is needed. It just kills me to wait heh.
