What is the maximum power draw of an HD 5970 at 100% load?

I heard that these things run extremely hot, and the fan can be quite noisy.

What are the average idle and load temperatures?

Seriously, look at the link in my post above. It's all there. Do your own research, if you have the time to ask all these questions at least put them all in your first post with a clear goal in mind or just.. again, read the review.

87 *C is pretty hot. My HD 5750 temps are a nice and cool 37/65 using it's stock cooler and stock clock speeds. What is the highest temperature a graphics card is designed to withstand before it starts to take damage?

105c for Nvidia; I don't know about ATI's current lineup but for the HD4000 series was 110c if I can recall.

Well said. Any hardware i think about investing in gets a full web investigation for reviews and specs. Asking forums is not so good when two people start giving different answers.

And yes, 850watts (with suitable amperage) is way enough. I run two 5850's with an OC'd i920 on a 850W Seasonic.

Yes takes about 300W max load. But since it runs hot, get a Full ATX case with lots of room and good airflow. I dont recommend you using a 5970 in a micro ATX case with stock cooling.

modern GPU's are rated to run at 105C for prolonged times, any higher than that for prolonged time and they will fail in time, but a 5970 is usually between 89C and 96C under heavy load when they get a little dusty(and it will)

Should handle it easy. I ran a single 4870x2 with an Earthwatts 650 and a 4870x2 uses more power than either a 5970 or a GTX480.

I just checked your system specs Monkey_Business, you can run a 5970 fine on your current Corsair TX750, no need to get an 850W Corsair.

I bought the 850W myself for future-proofing because my current one was an LC 550W.

Do read through the 5970 owners club thread - that way you can see which psu's 5970 owners are using, performance, benchmarks, in-game performance and all that interesting stuff :)

How badly would an i7 930 bottleneck a 5870 or 5970 at stock clock speeds? At what clock speed would the bottleneck be removed for those cards?
