I'm not sure about the naming scheme, but if these perform well enough, they can call them whatever they want!

i'm certain AMD will continue with its Black Edition tradition, especially now that most upcoming Intel Corei7 CPUs will have locked multis this is a very good time for BEs. Still, since the Corei7s absolutely killed the Phenom 9950 in bechmarks these new CPUs will not save AMD's ass even if they will overclock better, a Corei7 at stock will still bury any overclocked Phenom. I sincerly hope for all of our sake's that AMD is working on a new CPU architecture in parallel with the Deneb core and just keeping quiet about it.

On a brighter side, whats the word on Phenom FX?

I just pray Biostar will give a bios update to support these new CPUs for the new board that is coming in today.

So anyword on the pricing for these 3GHz Phenom X4 20550 and 2.8GHz 20350?

The article also says AMD is going to lower prices of few Phenoms. Hopefully egg has a sale this thanksgiving and I can pick up one.

It looks like it will soon be time to let go of the old 5600+ (running at 3,34Ghz, she still offers nice performance) and 3850 IceQ. I have been waiting for a while now. I want ont of those 45Nm quads and a 4850X2. I wonder how much OC my Mobo (DFI lanparty DK 790FX) will yield with this. I may change my ram (2X1G OCZ 4-4-4-15 DDR2-800 ATI crossfire edition) too....

I guess I should start saving now.

These look like nice CPUs, being 45Nm they shoul not run too hot and give nice performance. Aside from the die shrink, I wonder what changes in architechture they will offer. They will probably have different cache sizes then the Phenom.

Hopefully they don't make the same mistake like last time going from Windsor to Crappy Brisbane (slower cache speed and aweful OC)

I don't know man, some benchmarks I had seen of the deneb cores were pretty impressive, although I had seen these a while back.

after seeing the bechmarks for Corei7 that compare it to the Phenom and Core2 i'm convinced the Deneb will not overtake these CPUs. Of course, its an improvement over the current gen Phenom but its still a K8 in a K10b clothing. However, it may prove to be a competitor to C2D and C2Q, not everyone is going to jump on the LGA1366 bahndwagon in the near future.

I'm not trying to start a war or anything, but the i7 reviews I've seen didn't show much improvement in performance to speed as much as just better multi-threading abilities.
Again though, I'm talking about some older benchmarks and reveiws, I really haven't had much time lately between school and work to keep up on tech news.

i'm not trying to start anything either, i'm dissapointed in AMD just as any other AMD fan out there and i always hope for the best. But things dont look good for them. Even though Corei7 didnt show as big of an improvent as i expected, still 10-25% depending on application is pretty darn good. AMD has difficulty cathhing up with C2D, cathing up with Corei7 is going to be even more difficult.

Please beat i7, please beat i7(cross fingers)...Despite that the chances are next none, all we can do is hope that Phenom won't be blown out of the water again.

Check on Toms, they mentioned that the cache runs at same speed but the latency was high when compared to 90nm parts.

4ghz  I bet if I put my Windsor on such cooling it will easily reach that and beat a brisy at the same freq :D

Eager to see some results from AMD's first 45mm CPU's.

I won't go bonkers and rush out to buy one. I'll wait patiently for next September to upgrade my whole system.

Why would you care about names?
Um, to tell the difference between models, families and the a-like. The naming scheme is awkward and annoying (to me). Therefore, I think it sucks.

Thats the truth in it's entirity. i7 is going to be expensive, period....If AMD can come within 10-15% of i7 for less than half the price, their market shares should rebound significantly.

im sorry amd are losing and even deneb isnt going to save there ass, i know for a fact it wont compete with nehalem and am almost certain it wont even beat c2q clock for clock

its just a 45nm phenom with a different name, and its not too say am an intel fanboy im not, however the last 2 generations of amd were big let downs compared to intel counterparts and im beginning to think maybe the athlon series was a fluke on amds part because intel decided to stick with their crap netburst p4's

i hope deneb is a stop gap and they already have in development a whole new architecture not to compete with c2d/c2q or even nehalem, but past those, somthing that will compete and give amd that edge and not see them playing catch up with intel.

one can only hope tho, and i can tell you this for nothing, i wont be going amd again until they have the performance crown, i made the mistake with phenom and i wont be making it again and i think 50% of the choice to go phenom was just out of loyalty to branding, big mistake.

like i said i wont be going amd again until they get there shit together and thats not happening with these new 45nm phenoms

i'm certain AMD will continue with its Black Edition tradition, especially now that most upcoming Intel Corei7 CPUs will have locked multis this is a very good time for BEs.

Those aren't really at stock, just FYI. No one turned off turbo, so they're actually overclocked.
Intel did this to skew benchmarking against the C2s to make i7 look really fast.
