Best way is to make an "Upgrade". Basically you slam in USB drive with same Windows that you already have installed and you just install it over existing version using UPGRADE instead of clean install. This way it'll basically just fix the Windows without screwing up installed stuff. Similar to how major upgrades of Windows work these days, except you'll be "upgrading" to the same version you're already using. This trick actually works for quite a while now, since Windows Vista actually...

Sometimes us power users (those who use there pc all the time) get sooo much juck that they need to reinstall windows from scratch, not just roolback or what ever you can do in windows 10.

gasol is what windows fucks up, since i had no chance of chosing the name, if so it would have been gasolin

in the settings for my microsoft account and then my email my username is gasol and full name is Michael larsen
if i change gasol to gasolin would it fuck up my aut log in and all related to gasol?

Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool fucked up my installation, have done quite a few things all day so i can't remember it 100%, i think i had problems with aut log in (netplwiz), so i made a local account and tried to use that (also recommended to use a local account), it made it worse, last thing was that i could only log in to temporay account, so i tried to make som adjustements to windows but every time i tried to reboot windows wouldn't save my settings and i had to start adjusting windows again in the temporary :kookoo:, couldn't log in with the user i have used and that wasn't a temporary account. (i think i changed gasol to gasolin).

same dv i used for the installation with creators fall 91% install i got an error (can't remember the number of the error) tried again as an upgrade 91% and errror.

I used my old dvd with windows 10 and installed it togeteher with my new gpu.

Netplwiz where i can make windows aut log me in, if i click on properties i think it's called in english (for my username and group) my user name is gasol full name Michael larsen

Basically im trying to ask if and how i can change my username gasol to what i want and if it again will fuck up my account, aut log in,basically all related to gasol

I do get ocd if it's gasol instead of gasolin, you where you just have to change it, not matter what you can't live with a name not being what it used to be

I have been doing this since the 90s. Use separate SSD or HD partition for OS. Keep programs on another and data on another. Then I'd just wipe that 1st partition and reinstall the OS free of any of the flotsam and jetsam from years of leftovers. Finally, haveing never let a program get installed in "ProgramFiles", simply reinstall the programs over themselves to set up the registry.

Currently, with the drop in SSD pricing, our standard build has:

a) OS and Programs on 256 GB SSD
b) Backup of OS and Programs on 256 GB partition on 2 TB SSHD

If the primary SSD gets fudged, just boot to the SSHD and restore the image from SSHD to SSD. That beng said ... still will do the old method if no image available or image is borked.

Sometimes us power users (those who use there pc all the time) get sooo much juck that they need to reinstall windows not just roolback or what ever you can do in windows 10.

It depends on the junk accumulated honestly, but there are various methods. You can always remove programs, delete download folder, media locations, etc. As some have suggested, keeping some items on a separate internal storage drive is an option as well. Depends on what you have, what your budget is and how you want to handle your system and data.

The method @RejZoR suggests is sound and a method I've used dozens if not hundreds of time with great success in the field. In many cases though the goal is to keep user data intact, and to repair the OS. In place upgrade as it is called is also only doable in that method if you can boot to desktop, if you can't, it is time for some more advanced options or a format & reinstall.

With Windows 8 and 10 there are refresh and reset options that can be leveraged as well. Hold Shift and click Restart to reboot your system, this will get you into the advanced boot menu, which you'll need to choose advanced options (I forget ATM what it is called) and choose one of a couple items, refresh or reset.

Refresh is essentially In Place Upgrade but a little more aggressive as it wipes the Windows Apps and you may need to reinstall programs. Reset is like an OS reinstall, wipes user data, wipes profiles, registry, performs a install from the system image. Often times I'll do this and bypass using a USB key on a system. Though there are instances where these options will not work if a system has a level of corruption that has not been repaired/resolved. Check the OS Repair link in my sig for more info if ya need.

I prefer doing a clean install, but sometimes you just need to get the system working even if not in perfect condition. Often when I'm fixing systems for others and I can't spend 10 hours at their place doing it properly with everything reinstalled clean. Upgrade "fix" method solves it in 1-2 hours if system is older or slower. If it's newer, "upgrade" method can fix it in half an hour.

True. I will say the Windows 8.1 and 10 reset and refresh both usually go by pretty quick. Refresh isn't too far off from in-place upgrade, not sure why they didn't just make it the same process but overall it works well enough in most situations, but I'll always have a flash drive nearby for when it doesn't or is looking to be a time waster.

Another nice thing about in-place upgrades is that they can accomplished remotely without issue in most cases. I've performed several dozen that way. Windows 7, 8, 10, Server 2008R2, 2012R2, 2016, all successfully. Mount the ISO, run the upgrade process. I've used LogMeIn, TeamViewer and ConnectWise as well. Something that cannot be accomplished with refresh or reset from the advanced menu unless the system has IMPI or some remote console ability like a server.

Would be nice if this method was officially supported. Refresh Windows without losing any data or programs. I wouldn't mind if it would reset core Windows settings, services and stuff, for as long as it keeps 3rd party ones intact. Would still be faster to reinstall those 3 problematic apps than doing it for all of them.

Would be nice if Windows Reset also got rid of malware instead of doing a clean install :)

They should make a regular windows version and the clean windows version like for those who want a bare bone windows 10 like android, where google phones in the past (not up to date on newest google phones) got the cleanest most authentic no bloatware android experience.

Install creator update og block them? Creators update are being downloaded

In the age of data collection, bare bone W10, we won't see that anytime soon. If you want a clean install windows, I'd say go back to W7, but if your gaming, which I think you are based on the apps installed, you'll lose DX12 as W7 never received it.

I never ran a stock android rom. Always loaded custom roms from xda-developers.com back when I had a S5. It felt like I got a new phone every time i swapped roms.

Yes, install update, block in h/w firewall. Life's good :)

I don't block windows updates. I allow it through the F/W. I do block a bunch of telemetry data collection but not all!

I reiterate a hardware firewall block compared to a software and disc image backup so you don't have to clean install when you run into problems :)

I do play games

Currently i have installed
Bf 1
Crysis 3
CSGO
Dirt 3
Dirt
GTA V
GRIDAutosport
Half-Life 2
Need for speed hot persuit
Wolfenstein The new colossus
Owerwatch
Projetccars
PUBG
Need for speed shift 2 unleashed
ToyboxTurbo (humble bundle arcade game like micro machine)

Also have the witcher 3 and doom that are not installed and a 34" g sync monitor

And finally i have just installed my new Evga gtx 1080 sc brand new (and soo expensive, i got what i payed for my old gpu, it bought it new)

Why not just use the Windows 10 Settings > Recovery > Reset this PC?

https://www.onmsft.com/news/windows-10-reset-refresh-windows-10-installation-better-performance

As far as I know it's pretty much the same as a fresh install (as long as you have local access and aren't remoting in like some have mentioned...).

Have tried that, i have done soo much today that i can only remember that i finally desided to reinstall windows from scratch

Clean install is the right way. Congrats on the 1080. It's a beast of a card, I have its older brother 1080 ti and I game at 1440p on max settings with ease. What did you pay for yours these days? I saw the Ti going for something like 1200 on ebay?!

Almost 55% more than the my asus gtx 1070 strix cost (even more than the hydro gtx 1080 on the european site, only one gtx 1080 ti model in stock all other 1080 and 1080 ti out of stock ), it did cost 3790 of my currency november 2017, i got 3800 for it (no shipping) 10 min later i didn't have any gpu (ryzen),i found an old but new card (price to high only to use for less than 24 hours, couldn't find a used card close to where i live, i almost bought a much more expensive new gt 1030 or rx 550).

When trying Need for speed hot persuite (should have tried half life 2 one of the easiest game i have) my wireless reciver for my xbox controller stopped working, it was already a bit damaged since i forgot about it i the front of my case (define r5) when i had to move my pc, either pc upgrade or just to clean it.

(i always have played wireless, had for about 7 years i think it was the first wireless ps controller for pc from 2007-2008 until the software stopped working in windows 10, for the last 3-4 years i have had a wired mouse)

Forgot to mention i use to have a gtx 1060 6gb that also run 3440x1440 100hz fine, even at max setinings fps was more than okay in Gridautosport and dirt 3

Is this site ok to download Windows ISO Downloader.exe https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techn...icrosoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

When i tried it (dvd) i had problems at 91% im trying to download it to my usb drive

Download to your C: drive first then put onto USB.

The microsoft website didn't work? Use the program, and when it asks to What do do, upgrade this PC or create installation media, select installation media. Once you get to Choose media type. Select the USB drive. Make sure it's atleast 4GB. If you wanted to try and make the USB with Rufus, then select ISO file.
