Motherboard CPU socket exposed

Hi all.

I've just sold my old CPU and am currently saving up for a new one. The motherboard CPU socket is exposed but it's still in my case. Will the socket be damaged in any way if I just leave it like that or should I cover it with something anti-static?

Since you didn't tell which motherboard you own. I guess it is a MSI A320 PRO MAX.
Thats an AMD AM4 socket. That socket is safe against bent pins so I wouldn't worry. Just keep it dry and clean

If your have an Intel motherboard I would be worrying about bent pins when something hits the socket

An AM4 socket doesn't have pins in it so there is no need to worry about it, the pins for that socket are on the CPU.
That goes for any any AMD socket you can name but there are one or two AMD sockets with them down in the socket like an Intel, those being the newest sockets they've made since AM4 was introduced.

For Intels, I'd set a socket cover on or place a dummy chip (Dead chip if you have one ) in the socket, latched in of course and let the recipient know it's just a dead chip.

it should be ok if kept vertical dust should not bother it but if it bothers you, you could lay a plastic bag over the socket and tape it away from the socket at the top of the mobo.
