hello everyone
im having this problem in my computer that i can't fix it, basically the computer restart it self (kernal power) in benchmarks like "userbenchmark" and in some open world games first thing i suspect is the psu or the graphique card it self causing this , but then i tested both my psu and gpu in another system and it works just fine no shutdown no restarts after hours of benchmark in occt psu test and gpu test which my computer usually restart the moment i start this kind of benchmarks, could it be the motherboard or the cpu ?
note my pc works fine when i underclock my gpu to 1270 MHZ

THANKS IN ADVANCE

yes temps under load are fine
gpu 65-70c underload / cpu 55-60c underload
don't think the temps are the problem here cause the second i start " gpu userbenchmark" test pc shut down instantly

This very old PSU might be unable to provide the GPU the power needed due to its age decreasing performance.

This. I found a review from February 2006, if the PSU is that old, no wonder why there are problems.

Being a older motherboard perhaps the RX 580 is pulling enough power through the PCIe slot to trip a built in protection?

yeah it could be , but then the computer was working fine these past months
plus i tested my gpu with this psu in a 1st gen motherboard and still no restarts or shutdowns , maybe this old motherboard is failing

have you checked in event viewer to see if any error 1001 is listed that would point to a reason why it shut down

your 12v1 rail can only do 24amps. That was when brand new. So your psu is most likely unable to match what your GPU is asking under heavy loads any more.
You need a new PSU most likely, at least logic dictates that. Could be CPU VRM but normally that would simply just throttle, not shutdown. Shutdown suggests PSU, so does downlocking fixing your issue.

You can't just move the PSU to another system and say it works there so the PSU is fine. That other system might not be using as much power as the system that is having the problem, or it might be drawing power differently(different amounts from different rails).

If you want to eliminate the PSU as the problem, replace it with something new and reliable and see if the problem goes away.

yeah it could be , but then the computer was working fine these past months
Power supplies age, and as they age the amount of power they can reliable provide goes down. It sounds to me like you are right on the edge of stability with that older PSU. I'm not saying 100% it's the problem, but I'm saying the first thing I would do is replace it with a new unit from a good brand.

Power supplies are often overlooked because they don't give you more FPS, so people skimp on them. But they are the most important part of your system because when they fail they are the only component that has a good chance of killing every other component in your system. Good units also aren't that expensive. You can get a good 650w unit for under $60. Don't skimp on the power supply, it's not worth risking every component in your computer.

if he was to test it is to pull the power limit back a good bit like example nvidia gtx 1050 with msi afterburner but not sure if that possible with amd rx580 as i dont have one here to test as i know the amd rx 580 would require above 500watt psu just to get going but could be wrong. just had a look yes it requires 500watt. what he need is above 700/850 watt power supply in order to run the specs he has if that involved overclocking the cpu/ram.

You know the recommended is for the entire system right? His 2400 ain't gonna top 60w even if he clocked it up (if he could)

I'm willing to bet the entire rig doesn't pass 400w with something like furmark.

Asus motherboard. I'm wondering if it is sensing out of spec voltages from the PSU and shutting the system down?

Today, we'd call that PSU a 385 watt PSU. Only 384 watts total on the 12 volt rails when new.

I too believe it's a PSU issue.
Dropping out under load because it's old and frankly not really enough wattage to ensure proper power delivery.

A nice 650W would do all it needs without costing too much, something along the lines of a Seasonic unit would be perfect..... However a good Corsair unit is cheaper.

Example:
Not modular like many would want but it has the "Good" cables instead of the molded flat ones which are not as good in quality, plus it's cheap.
Not to mention it's a single rail unit too.

Uh, no? Ram and drives barely take anything in terms of power. Using your logic my overclocked everything with 7 drives would overload my 4+ year old PSU, which it doesn't. He can push that 2400 to 4ghz and overclock the 580 and still maybe max 450w.

At idle it it using little power but at full tilt is bottlenecking the power supply as some benchtest force everything to run. It like running for miles without liquid in a bottle as it not possible
