Dunno if this right place to ask but,i got a microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 explorer and i love it =) but i was wondering if mouse surface(mouse pad) matter?? i got some reflection mouse mat and it kinda makes the mouse go bit sluggish(slow) just wondering if i should buy new one for gaming purpose and general use :)
i was looking at these mouse mat:
Razer Goliathus omega small: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/7738996/Razer-Goliathus-Omega-Small-Speed-Mouse-Mat/Product.html
Razer Goliathus cloth gaming mat omega control: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5985697/Razer-Goliathus-Cloth-Gaming-Mat-Omega-Control/Product.html

Well, it all depends on how much of the surface you use when your playing.. Myself, I use my old "VS System" mat. I love the thing, and it covers my whole Keyboard/Mouse area.. But, since I tend to use the whole area, I just have the mouse there. The prices are almost the same, so it just all depends on how much of a surface you will be using when you use your mouse..

i suppose that would be a question that's answer would differ person to person. some mouse pads have more friction depending on it's surface so your pad could definitely be slowing you down to some degree. and yea that mouse you have is fucking bomb dude :rockout: my bro has one and i wanna steel it cause they don't make intelli 3's anymore, there's this but it's scroll wheel apparently sucks and i use scrol to jump and space to crouch in FPS games so its a not go for me :(

I aksed this before, and the general reponse was that they are a waste of money.

I just have a generic gel pad, and upgraded to a laser mouse for better speed and accuracy.

Dont forget you can change the sensitivity of the mouse if you are finding it sluggish.

For your mouse any cheap mouse pad should do. They do have ergo mouse pads were your wrist sits on a gel pad like surface. Very comfortable IMO.

I love the intellimouse 3.0 =) slick black colour, such a nice looking mouse ^_^ i have changed my sensitivity although i still think it could be my mouse surface thats making it slow.

A mouse pad is generaly a good thing for not wearing off your desk surface. Sliding a mouse can scratch.

I use 12" X 14" piece of 3/8" plywood with a marble arborite (countertop) that i put on my lap for comfort.

What can i say... I like it when it's roomy. What's the point of a 6X8 pad?

There are the two obvious choices for gaming pads:

Razer eXactMat w/ eXactRest
Razer Destructor Pad

And there are the lesser known but just as good:

Razer Mantis
Razer Goliathus
Steelseries Qck (Cheapest & smoothest for optimal gliding.)

I personally wouldn't use the Razer pads because they're too expensive, the Steelseries Qck pads are awesome.

Regular wood is hard to maintain accuracy in games. FYI i just noticed that wireless mice works like crap on plastic pads.

From what I'v learned
For the competitive maybe even the average gamer, a mouse pad does/should matter.
Depending on what kind of mouse you have, optical or laser.
Variables that come into play are friction, and material used on the pad.

There are essentially three types of materials used.
Plastic, metal, and cloth

Metal won't gather any dirt or grease and have low friction

Cloth tend to gather a lot of dirt//grease and have high friction

Some plastic mouse pads dont have much friction and dont attract as much dirt or grease as other types.

For FPS games, low texture is preferred.

Personally for fast paced FPS games like COD4 and other multiplayers I need to have mouse pad as smooth as silk. I even clean it with Windex when it gets slower.
