All that I know this is that since version 56 (64 bit) they were at the right track and other software developers were able to demonstrate their talents due their add-on too.
Then they changed everything and they set on fire all past work.
I send them tenths of messages in the past decade at Tweeter, they never answer anything.

And also how in earth the Firefox become safer when this accepts and records cookies as vacuum cleaner, creates myriads of user activity copies.

New or old FF team they are unable to create new technology of their own, all that they was doing this is compatibility with Google and users tracking data were hand over to advertisers, they was getting what they had pay for.
My personal opinion, they were never was the innocent guy and or activist against forces of evil.

I was had to pay for additional software, that does the Firefox cleaning of my internet tracks.

And with the layoffs earlier this year (before the pandemic), that's nearly 1/3 of their workforce in a year. That's big - and NOT just a sign simple restructuring but a sign they are struggling to remain afloat.

I have a hard time believing their claim that the pandemic played a role here. I am seeing this excuse used too often these days. The facts are, Internet use has gone dramatically UP since the pandemic as more and more workers and students and everybody else are stuck at home. So it seems (to me anyway) Mozilla should be doing better, not worse. Makes you wonder if the leadership is leading (pushing?) the company down the wrong road.

Firefox browser marketshare is down to ~7% and dropping. This is mainly because for the past decade, Mozilla has been trying to diversify, and failing miserably (anyone remember Firefox OS? no? case in point). A side-effect of this is that their core product, the browser, has not received new features that will allow it to stand out amongst its competition - while also making architectural changes that are good in theory, but caused issues with e.g. extensions, thus causing users to switch away.

As an end result Mozilla has hired a new management team, which has been trying some things to pull the marketshare back up, but they don't seem to be working particularly well. Hence this cut.

Personally I don't think Firefox will be around for too much longer. That saddens me, because right now I do think it's the best browser available, but the fact that it effectively has only 1 competitor (Chrome) which is far stronger, plus Mozilla's continued inability to monetise, means that market forces are pointing in a single direction for their browser. The fact that a large chunk of Mozilla's revenue comes from an agreement to use Google Search in Firefox should tell you just how bad things are.

I agree. They also were leading the pack for awhile with newly discovered vulnerabilities - though to their credit, they released fixes/patches faster than the others too.

But those issues helped alternatives gain footing, including forked and spinoffs like Pale Moon.

I'm on Basilisk right now. I also use SR Iron & Brave for chrome alternatives.

In theory Firefox was made to gather the vote of smart people even if this were at 10%.
Any one thought, that Firefox will take over the world he is nuts, FF small victory was the international collaboration with people making Add-on about it.
suddenly ... all past helpers they were baptized as security thread and then elimination started.
Around a month later than September 2017 the downfall started regarding management issues.

If old team regroup (September 2017) then it might be some hope for a new FF2 with traditional graphic interface as it was at 2017.
We have a life to live and better things to do than spending time for a new learning curve after its version of Firefox release.

Hang on, are you saying Firefox was founded as a response to cookies? As to the last line I'm not sure if this is what you mean but they did have a third of the browser market at one point.

??? But that makes no sense. Or rather, isn't that just plain obvious? The very definition of fork software means the code was taken from another software program, then used to build a new, independent build based on that original source code. So of course, if FF was never around, there could be no forked software based on it - such as Pale Moon, Basilisk (from the makers of Pale Moon!), or Waterfox too.

Unfortunately, Mozilla too has become ~~part of~~ the problem a very long time ago. And their product is shit. So yeah, I shall stick to ungoogled-chromium. (I did check out Pale Moon though, that looks neat. It's my secondary browser now.)

This disappoints me I will never use Chrome. I have all thIngs google marked untrusted via NoScript and I use Duck Duck Go. I guess I’ll have to start checking out Pale Moon etc. in case FF truly folds and I need a replacement.
