Recently Ive been playing quite a bit of Ark Survival Evolved and I've been getting a crash to windows every hour on average... At first I thought it could be my OC being bad, so I turned off all forms of OC on both my GPU and CPU, leaving only the XMP profile on for the ram...
I still was getting the crashes UNTIL I closed MSI AB and RTSS... Why is RTSS crashing ARK?
I tried using the "custom d3d support" setting in RTSS but that makes ARK crash right at startup

Recently I've been turning on the frame time GRAPH monitoring in ARK and the crashes and intensified in frequency... don't know if its related. I'm running a gtx 2080 ti on the latest drivers, a i7 9700k.

This being said: Do you have a recommendation for what I could do to fix the issue? Is there a better OC/OVERLAY Monitoring software?

Just do without RTSS? Enjoy the game? Seems like a simple answer to me. For other games that have no issue with RTSS, turn it back on.

I played Spellforce 3 this summer, RTSS or anykind of overlay would not work with it. I just used the build in, Nvidia fps monitor or if your monitor has such a feature.

I like to monitor things such as my clock speeds, ram usage and stuff in game
also msi ab is what I use to control my "fan curve" for the graphics card

as said above, some games just don't support those kind of programs, you will have to do without it for some of them.

Yup. Destiny 2 is another one that comes to mind, no way to use overlay, at least about a year ago wehn i played it. MSI Afterburner's fan curve will work, independent of RTSS.

When talking about RTSS causing issues, is it the RTSS itself or the overlay? In most cases, overlay is what games cannot handle properly.

There is a lot of games that are problematic with the overlay but work fine when it is turned off (with RTSS otherwise running). I now usually have a bunch of graphs from Afterburner running on the second monitor :)

In the PC port of Catherine Classic I cannot have MSI AB/RTSS running because the game instantly crash if I do it while the game is running.

If I choose to have MSI AB/RTSS running before the game, the game simply doesn't start up so I just ignored this issue because the game ain't really that demanding so it's fine.

In the past when playing GTA V I could set RTSS detection level at "Low",
now it will crash at startup set like that and have to set the detection level at "None" , this way the game doesn't crash and I still have the OSD.

disable the overlay for that game

being OCD about the stats of your hardware is not a good thing, pay attention when you make changes or you're troubleshooting, otherwise just enjoy the game - especially in cases like this where you have likely run into a software conflict
