MSI GTX 670 Power Edition Fan Issue

Hello, I'm having an issue with one of the two fans on my 670 (MSI GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB).

The fans both start when the computer is booted but shortly after boot one of the fans just stops. I first noticed it when I moved the card in to a new motherboard (GIGABYTE Z97X-Gaming 5), but assumed it was because it was cool enough not to be required.

Could this have been caused by me damaging the card while swapping it over, or is there another cause?

Is there any way to fix the problem?

Sounds to me like the bearings are going on one of the fans, so it spins when it boots and is receiving full power but stops when the card tries to lower the fan speed.

I'd contact MSI, it should still be under warranty.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What is the best way to contact them, as I cant find an email? Should I post on their forum?

I had the GTX 670 PE - does it do it while idle? I think if I can remember correctly that the card did stop one of the fans when it was bellow a certain temp. I would give it load and check again to see if that is it.

It does it under load, I was playing CS:GO and the temp was hitting 80+, checked the fans and only 1 was running.

Sorry for the long wait, the fan was confirmed as faulty by both my supplier and MSI. I have been offered me an alternative card as they couldn't repair my card, if the guy I spoke to was correct I have been offered a 690 GTX but he is going to double check as it seems to good to be true. I have my fingers crossed and MSI will have me as a customer for life if I do get it.

Very cool! That's a decent upgrade as a replacement.

Yeah, 960 is an upgrade, it beats the 770 in most tests and even the 780 in a couple. However, the 4GB variants have not been released yet, only announced, so you are probably correct that it is a 690.

Im sure he said the 690, as he mentioned 4GB of RAM, and is the 960 even an pgrade over the 670? I though it was a budget card, or was I wrong?

He may already have access to 4GB 960s even if they are not in stores. The GTX 960 is a budget mid range card but it is a Maxwell and according to the benches done here it outperforms the 670 by a bit. It would make more sense that they would send you a 960 instead of a 690 as a replacement. If they do send you a 690 then that's pretty generous of them. One thing though, make sure your PSU can handle it. The 690 uses a good bit more amps than the 670 that you used to have.

The new card has arrived and is now fitted. They did send me a 690 GTX, so it's a nice little upgrade from the 670 GTX, my power supply is dealing with the new card without a problem. Thanks for all the help.
