There is the coffee time mod for the 6-7 gen mobos to use 8-9 gen cpus.
But there is a 10gen mobile cpu with an interposer to work in 1151 moterboards. I want that!!!

i9 10980HK ES QTJ1 "box" 100 USD from china
It is an early mobile comet lake for BGA1440.

Motherboard MSI H110M PRO - 26 USD with cooler but no backplate
it is a cheap basic motherboard, nothing special.

Prepairing the socket to the double PCB CPU, it is much thicker than the desktop cpus.

Lets start it:

A few errors, ME? who need that?
PSU is 300W FSP from 2008...
Ram works at 2133mhz, with 2666 only one ram works (faulty ram? weak IMC? It is from a HP brand 7gen)
For testing i use an old NVS 295 video card (~Geforce 8400), but also the integrated is working well.

Xeon? It is just because the ME is CORP mode? Don't care...

There is a big issue with the turbo. The pc shuts off when turbo active and tdp is unlimited. But stable at 95w limit set in the bios.
It needs a better VRM. (or better PSU?)

Intel XTU works, so i can play with all the unlocked fun things and it dont need Z chipset for that! (but for serious OC it needs a Z170 just because the better VRM)

IMCs in these revamped lappietoppie chips don't excel so having more than 2500 MHz isn't a given. Other than that, incredible value if you don't mind some risk, some waiting and possible tinkering with delidding (sometimes the only way to keep temperatures at bay).

I don't think you can achieve anything beyond 4.2ish GHz in gaming on H110 sans stoking it. Hope you didn't buy it for a serious competitive gaming rig.

It is a fun project. I don't want to use it for today games.
My kids will get this for minecraft and older games with 25w Dell oem RX6300, 2x8GB ram. (now they use my old Dell T5810 workstation for gaming)
It will be slowed down to ~45w limit to work almost silent. I think it will be still faster than the old 2618Lv3 (8c/16t 3.4ghz all core turbo hacked).
It is way overkill compared for their needs.

After a few tweaking.

UPDATE

I must set the Amper to 100 or it will randomly shuting down. This is some kind of hard limit on the mobo vrm, still better than a dead smoked VRM. Again this is a H110 for i3-i5 and not for this unlocked i9.

When i set the all core multi in bios to manual 46 the power limits raised to 135w with auto setting. It works like a desktop K CPU. All core turbo is 4600mhz. Need to lower the voltage -50mv for better performance.

When the multi is on auto and all power management is enabled, the power limits are 35-45w It is now works like a notebook cpu. Very cool but still very usable performance. All core turbo with avx is 3400, few cores 4400-4600mhz. Voltage is lower.

So for the every day usage i set the multi to auto for notebook mode. Idle wattage is just 26-30w on window11 desktop. Cyberpunk is 80-90w. (with RX6300). Perfect for low end or light gaming.

For testing i can set the multi in bios to manual mode max 46, and after i can set 50+ in XTU if needed, this set the auto power limits to 130w.

Memory is fixed at dual channel 2133mhz, i dont think that i need more for this light gaming pc.

The Rx6300 is very weak but it only eats 20w, fan at 0 rpm when idle. So there is no CPU bottleneck even on 45w TDP setting.

UPDATE
TDP set to 65W
my daughter got it for a light gaming pci with a cheap Sapphire nitro RX570, 2x8GB ram, 500GB SSD... just for minecraft and another light games...

zero instability! Very cool and quiet (with an old Thermalright extreme ultra 120 tower cooler at fixed 5v 12cm fan. Runs Windows11 well.
