First thing first, can somebody tell me how to disable onboard sound on this motherboard. (i know but i just want to double check)

My system specs:

amd 64 3800
msi k8n neo2
ati x850 xt graphic card
512 kingston ram
samsung sata 80gb

So here is my problem:

I placed the card in an empty pci slot and then installed the driver.
Everything worked fine. Then when i restarted my computer, found "new multimedia audio device" pops up. If i
try to install the driver for this "new multimedia audio device", the
driver is not installed through the provided cd.

If i shutdown my computer, swap the pci slot of the card and then reinstall the driver. It starts working fine again. But as soon as i restart my pc, the same thing happens. Please help.

Some times it is automatically disabled, but most of the time it is not. just go to bios, look for AC'97 or some thing sound equivalent and disable it.

Disable the onboard sound here: INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS -> AC´97 AUDIO

When "new multimedia audio device" pops up, don´t care about it and run setup.exe from the CD.

After labouring with my x-fi for five days, I stumbled upon the solution just by chance. I did two installs of windows, flashed every bios version available, used all different combination of available motherboard and x-fi driveres and nothing worked and then when i was finally gonna give up hope, i enabled my motherboard onboard audio in bios and and bingo.

Here is what you do. Don't disable sound card in your bios. Simply disable your built in sound card in device manager. Then install your x-fi and the latest drivers from creative site and you are good to go.

Hope this helps for anyone who faces the same problem. Thankyou everyone.

One more thing....sometime clearing cmos by jumper also helps to maintain the x-fi detection for a couple of days.

creative forums and read all the problems people have with their cards and drivers!!!!!

my advice if you can return the card do, get an auzentech card, better quility, better drivers, less hassles!!!
