MSI brings the MPG Carbon line to the Intel Z690 chipset with Gen5 PCIe slots and DDR5 support. Along with debuting new features on the LGA1700 socket, this motherboard has dual 8-pin EPS, reinforced Steel Armor PCIe slots, five M.2 sockets, Mythic Lighting, and Wi-Fi 6E.

Wow, I don't get those VRMs heating up on an 18 stage 75A VRM motherboard with big looking heat sinks.

Maybe those heat skinks are crap? I don't get that kind of buildup on my 10 stage 50A.

Worst case scenario. Prime95 - 300 watts. Can't do much higher without liquid metal or that sort if stuff.

Its not a faulty sensor either. I checked to make sure. Besides both probes reach in the 90s. So that tell you that it is unlikely a faulty probe

I would assume that lowet tier ones will be worse in the torture test (50-60A). But I do not have a MB with that yet. However a lot of those lower end ones do not have LLC or switching options which can make some difference in the final voltage and transient response.

I was seriously considering this motherboard but then the DDR5 availability and the shocker pricing for DDR5 changed my mind and I went for the ASUS Strix-A D4 instead, notwithstanding they had a cash back promotion which gave me £75 back. Re-used my DDR4 3600 in gear 1 and it does the job fairly well though first time using an Asus BIOS which seem a bit complicated.

Great that MSI Carbon it can do PCIe Gen 5 across both PCIe slots which is a big plus...Still surprised the VRM's are not that great as usually the Tomahawk and above boards tend to be good on that side. Good in-depth review as always.

Still the Z690's are a bit to expensive...

For better or worse, this seems to be the cheapest board, or close to cheapest, which has two PCIe 5.0 x8 slots. And it's still 400 in dollars/pounds/euros.

the heatsink looks much weaker than the previous carbon in z590.
