MSI Radeon RX 580 Armor 8GB OC not (fully) UEFI compatible? BIOS issue?

Hello,

I registered new to this forum, as I read a lot here and saw there are experts like @eidairaman1 active here. Maybe you can help me.
I have setup a new computer with mainboard Gigabyte z490 Vision G and my older graphics card MSI Radeon RX 580 Armor 8GB OC. Everything runs fine, just I cannot setup Secure Boot successfully: I cannot enable Secure Boot in my BIOS, since the CSM mode is active. When I deactivate CSM, it is reenabled after reboot. I have support tickets open with MSI and Gigabyte. Gigabyte is telling me, that the only reason could be a non-UEFI-compatible GPU, while MSI states that the card is fully UEFI compatible.
I have seen that there are four BIOS versions in the wild: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios...emSize=8192&did=1002-67DF-1462-3418-E7&since=, and I seem to have the oldest one on my graphics card.

Do you have any knowledge of UEFI issues with that card/BIOS?
Would it make sense to try and flash the BIOS to a newer version? If so, which one? How big is the risk to brick my card? And how would I do the flashing/what tools & procedure do I need?

I'd start out by making sure your mobo's BIOS is the latest and if the issue is still present then look at grabbing MSI's live update program from

run it and see if it actually updates your GPU's BIOS as it looks like there's an update there (not that they say anything about UEFI issues but you can bet ya bottom dollar it's been fixed) failing that then just grab the coresponding VBIOS from for your GPU as long as it has the same amount/manufacturer of VRam you should be all good

I do have the newest mainboard BIOS installed (from November 3rd). I also have MSI live update. It does not show me anything. Unsure if I do anything wrong there:

Also, MSI support states, that they don't hand out BIOS files for company policy reasons. And at first they stated, it might be a (VGA) BIOS problem, afterwards they told me to "rest assured" that it's not a BIOS problem and the card is fully UEFI compatible...
Gigabyte support though is quite convinced it has to be the graphics card - since I did a fully minimal setup and have the newest mainboard BIOS.

Long story short, I guess I'm just going to try it.


Since I've never flashed a VGA BIOS (at least not since Voodoo 3 times ), I'm a bit shaky. The threads I read here sometimes stated, that you could pick the wrong tool or even tool version for flashing. Which one should I take?

Regarding BIOS version: I have to judge from the date, since the version numbers are all the same!? I seem to have this one: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191946/msi-rx580-8192-170314
I would try to go with this: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/196215/msi-rx580-8192-170912 or this: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/198251/msi-rx580-8192-171113, since they support the same (or even more) memory types. This one is the newest, but it drops all but Samsung support: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/216029/msi-rx580-8192-190625 - so I wouldn't go with this one.
Or is there any easy way to find out which memory I'm using?

Any more suggestions?

Edit: One more thing that I'm worried about: The pictures of the cards in all above bios links are not matching with my card. They show this red framed fan. My card has a white framed fan. GPUz might be able to tell you which Vram modules your card is using it can be found in the Advanced Tab or if it can't then the only reliable way is to remove the HSF and look at the modules for yourself

I found this posting after having a long break in trying to solve my very similar problem: During the booting Gigabyte B550 MB Uefi setting "CSM Mode=Disabled" turns automatically to "CSM Mode=Enabled" randomly. This is a big problem because I'm running Hackintosh and it requires that the CSM mode is disabled. I'm having Sapphire PULSE RX 580 8G G5 OC Lite (SKU 11265-67). Firmware in the card: 353Y6SFC.O6T (Bios build date 2020-01-15 08:12:00) seems to be the latest one, or at least I wasn't able to find any newer ones. Glad to hear that you had success after updating the Radeon firmware. If someone has a similar problem and solved it somehow, please continue here below.

Thats a problem with gigabyte, contact gigabyte, its not the gpu causing your problem.

I had a long (almost 3 months) discussion with Gigabyte support, while I had the X570 MB. They were unable to help. The only solution from their side was to change the RAM modules, which I did, but that didn't help at all. After that, I even replaced my motherboard with another Gigabyte product, this time B550, but still, the same problem occurred, luckily not so often than with the X570. I was "forced" to buy Gigabyte MB because that is highly compliant with the Hackintosh system, which I'm running. Otherwise, I would have bought another vendor's MB.
