So this morning I was browsing the online marketplace and noticed msi have not only continued their vast overpricing but also due to Newegg I'm guessing started to bundle gpu's with items people generally don't want.

Below is a listing of which the motherboard can be purchased for £75 here making the rtx 3060's price a whopping £700 although I understand this might not be that expensive in the grand scheme of things, it's still pretty bad considering this is from msi's own store.

If your an Radeon fan they also sell their 6900x for a cool £2000

If it is selling at those prices, it simply means people are buying them at those prices. If someone is going to offer me $50,000 for my $10,000 truck, I'm going to sell it to them.

Scalping here is a pandemic in its own right though the government has made scalping essentials illegal now (masks and eggs were the reason) but electronics especially gpu's are going for insane prices. If I were to think positively I would hope msi would actually sell at a higher price blow through all the scalpers wallets then start selling at msrp or a price close enough to be fair.

Except the scalpers are probably getting them at normal prices.

I am not surprised at that. But I am not assuming the scalpers are getting their products at retail outlets. They could easily be part of an organized gang with connections in other countries where the prices are not jacked up. The products could be smuggled in - perhaps with customs agents getting paid to look the other way.

Don't single out MSI. Basically all of the AIB partners jacked up their prices at the beginning of this year citing various reasons: silicon shortage, pandemic, demand, whatever.

Normally AMD and Nvidia announce MSRP pricing for their reference design cards and the AIB partners release their own versions with a modest markup. That went out the door in 2021.

Worse, AMD and Nvidia have priced their low-end cards much higher. Models like the GeForce 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 are marketed as cards for 1080p gaming yet are being listed well above $300. Realistically the true value of a 1080p graphics card is $250 or less.

A year ago I bought a brand-new Radeon RX 580 for $180, about what it's true value is. Today that stupid card is $650 in a "renewed" condition (meaning used, from Amazon) and around $990 new from third-party Amazon sellers.

I scored an ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce 3080 via Newegg Shuffle in a combo deal with a decent (but unwanted) ASUS motherboard. Newegg lists the 3080 MSRP at $1050 which is the same price that ASUS's online store did. I think it was $849 a week after the 3080 was released but that ship has sailed a long time ago.

So I have an ASUS ROG Strix B550 ATX motherboard that I have never opened. Heck, it's still in the original shipping box. I will donate it to charity, take the tax deduction and yes I will claim the full street price.

Unfortunately, consumers have created these high prices due to simple supply and demand. My $180 RX 580 is selling at $1000 today because some people will shell out that coin. AND EVERY CARD WILL SELL at 3x to 5x true value.

Free market economics doesn't mean sell at the lowest price. It means sell at what the market will pay.

GPU pricing will get worse before it gets better.

If you aren't willing to consider a less-desirable combo purchase, you'll be sitting on the sidelines for another 12-18 months.
