A piece of advice: that HD3850 is too much for your setup unless you're running in high resolutions, above 1680x1050. I used to have it with a P4 3.4E OCed to 3.65 and it didn't perform significatelly better than my HIS HD4650 DDR3 in resolutions below 1680x1050.

At 1280x1024 there was no difference at all, same FPS in Crysis and Far Cry 2 with med settings. I even threw in a Sapphire HD4650 DDR2 with memory oced to 550Mhz and there wasn't a lot of difference, 2 fps at most. That Sapphire is still in the P4 machine I gave to my brother. He just plays San Andreas and Halo 2 so it's perfect for him.

With my E5800 oced to 3.68 the 3850 took off, with about 10%-15% more performance in low resolutions and even more at high but it required 2x the power so I decided to keep the HD4650 DDR3 oced to 650/870 (from 600/650) which gave me similar results.

Also bump ;)

Note to self: when asking "does it come with the box?" specify that it's the outer box what you're referring to.

Now I'm considering the HD3850 again because I intent to put a QX6800 in there and I want the HIS IceQ version because of the blower style cooler since the case is pretty small and only has a couple of 60mm fans for exhaust (which was the same reason for me replacing my HIS HD4650 DDR3 with a HIS HD4670 earlier this year).

Also bump ;)

*** EDIT- Shoot forgot you guys were doing AGP... this is a PCIE version- Sorry bout that ***

I have a single slot 3870 if you were considering a 3850 for that setup...

Details:

SAPPHIRE 100225DDR3L Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit ...

I have the outer box too!

I'm going with an AMD/nVidia build (codename: Green Tea ).

I haven't owned a desktop AMD CPU ever so I thought it'd be neat to have an specimen of the legendary FX line. And the 7900 series were the most powerful AGP cards released by nVidia. And I have a bunch of DDR500 sticks collecting dust.

I know that the FX60 is costly but you never know. The 4800 and 4400 are basically the same CPU just slower so I could settle for that, although the CPU-Z screenie won't we as epic.

I've got a 256mb BFG 7800gs OC in an old shoebox from a while back. Pulled it out of my old rig working but I haven't run it in a while and I have no way to test it at the moment.

Its this model here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143046

Friend of mine has an asrock Dual-SATA2 939 ULi M1695 ATX board. Thats the agp/pci-e board with the expansion slot for the am2 daughterboard that can take the am2 proc and the ddr2 on the daughterboard.

Its got 3 gigs of ddr400 and an a64 3400+ in it right now that we oc'ed to 2.45 from 2.2. It used to have an 8800gts 320 in it for a video card (got it cheap from another friend)

You might be able to find an opteron 185/180/175 in a better price range for 939 as well as the fx's you are looking at.
