My bro went on my dads PC two times and this is what i had to fix.

Is this just from porn sites? i have never seen so many viruses/ malware in my entire life.

My dad only uses the machine for light gaming and researching for his CD / Movie collection as he's a collector.

I have only enabled internet on it 3 days a go and my brother has been the only user so it's obvious who it is.

I have had to repair the registry, Windows Defender is completely destroyed and have since installed AVAST free edition.

I ran a second scan and Malwarebytes caught 1 more which was a PC hijacker.
After that run i ran AVAST scan it found 1 virus and fixed it.

Ran Ccleaner and repaired whatever it found out of place.

Nothing else since though has gone wrong.

then a few months later, after ignoring my suggestions, He'll Casually ask for my help either fixing, or totally reinstalling his O.S.

why in the hell do teenagers seem to feel a "download manager" is required?? it just Sounds "virus'y" to me. what could a application of that nature even do? put all of Your downloads in a single location? possibly a folder named downloads? sounds familiar, but i cant put my finger on it

Avira has too many AD popups for my liking anymore... a couple years ago they were my go-to free solution.

Avast is still a decent option, and if you can find an old version of Malwarebytes 1.75 you can setup scheduled scans. Though I prefer 2.x overall.

150 isn't bad, I had a PoS PC (Point of Sale) that was only a few weeks old and they had over 2500 infections. That required MBAM, ADW. JRT, Avast, Kaspersky and SFC to fully repair and resolve all issues. Be very careful with CCleaner, always backup registry if you use their registry cleaner so you can reapply entries removed...sometimes that program goes too far and can cause more damage than it resolves. Though most of the time it does a decent job of cleaning things up without killing them.

What you should do is create standard users for those jokers to use, and have an passworded admin account that is not named admin or administrator to use. Then setup Teamviewer free in unattended mode so you can remote on and unfuck any future incidents remotely.

Regardless, your dad and bro, or whomever is getting into stuff that is clearly infecting them. Could be torrenting, porn, semi-legit sites for various news and media content, or a pirated/cracked program that included some fun malware, etc. Usually once the door is open for malware, more floods in depending on what it is and what its designed to do.

I have come to an arrangement with my dad and locked it down, bios and OS, passwords on everything, he is banned.

He's a grown ass adult he is a year above me aged 27 so this is not really something i am beating about the bush with, he is banned and that's how the terms are.
He trolls regularly on chat sites etc he is also slightly autistic so he will fixate on things, whatever the case though he is not on anyone elses machine, he has his own handheld device which no one moderates or looks at which is rightly so he is an adult after all.

He is clever too there is no internet history.

Have you figured how to use the monitoring with openDNS? All I could get was a vague record, but the filtering works well

Well the Free Home version is limited, it'll only show web access for the site, not for specific IP addresses. You need to sign up for Umbrella services for that.

I use Squid on my PFSense as my web proxy cache, and that allows me to see that kind of information.

Well if you're expected to continually fix it, set the router to use those DNS servers and hand out its IP address or those DNS servers for DHCP and block the whole damn site. Then if he's not on 3/4G services with the handheld device, he'll be filtered.

I understand disabled folks, and hyperfixation and having trouble making the right decisions...my teenager has NLD which has some similarities with Autism in those ways. So I locked down my home with OpenDNS and Squid. I don't even review logs anymore...the only place he gets into trouble anymore is Youtube, and then I block it for a short time...haven't had to do that in some time lol.

I'd actually suspect Facebook.

There have been a number of clickbait articles this week that have popped up in the new "suggestions" feed addition. A good few have spawned virus like web pages as pop-ups from the clickbait article. And those have spawned on me through ABP and running firefox. One site I saw a fair few times a day had that "your PC is infected" pop out window that plain won't close unless you install the software. It even locked out the close option on the browser. I had to kill it in task manager.
