My dad wants to get me a PC or PS3 game for christmas, no idea what to ask for.

I've got the following on PC:
COD2-Loved the single player
Stalker: SOC- Ends up taking way too much time
Fear+ Expansions- Loved
Fear 2- Not got round to playing this despite having it for ages
Supreme Commander- Good but hardly played
Half life and HL:S- Love HL
Guild Wars: Liked but got a bit samey
HL:2 and the episodes- See above
L4D- Got old very quickly
Empire: Total War- Great
Bioshock- Like it
Orange Box- Brilliant
PS3:
LBP- Enjoyed but precision jumping drove me up the wall
MGS4- Enjoyed but needs to be played more
Batman: AA- Enjoying massively
GT5 Prologue- I'm useless at this
Haze- Mediocre
I'd like some reccomendations on a game for him to get me, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

+1 for assasins creed 2 (and assasin's creed 1 if you've not played it yet) - that's looking to be my favourite single-player game for the christmas season. It's a shame you thought L4D got old quick, else i'd have said L4D2 in a heartbeat (have you given the L4D2 demo a shot - you may enjoy it more than 1). I know it's a little old now but i just played through mass effect 1 (from the steam sale) and boy was it good - fortunately for an "rpg" it was a well paced storyline which i was able to blast through in a couple of 3 days without getting frustrated by any parts being too hard, although i can't see myself going back to ME again for a while now i've done it..

Maybe wait a few months for Mass Effect 2. If you don't have Mass Effect, you can get that one for pretty cheap these days.

If you like RPGs, maybe consider The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.


Mafia II is also coming out soon. If you haven't played Mafia, that's one to look at too.

yeah i know Dragon Age : origin, but since the publisher was EA, i'm afraid they will inject some nasty DRM to my PC (just like they did in spore)

Mafia was a 3rd person action game. Mafia II isn't likely to change that. Think GTA3, circa 1930-1940.


EA pratically owns Bioware so if you want the gems Bioware produces, you'll have to put up with EA. I feel your pain.

Dragon Age has none of the real nasty DRM they have a rather tame version of securom i believe much like oblvion etc so no big deal

yeah it's kind suck, because i really want to play it (and COD:MW 2) but the publisher really pissed me off

i really hope SE (square enix) can enter PC game completely and bring FF13 to the PC

no it did not drm on dragon age is simplistic and non worrisome nothing compared to the hell that was spore etc

Actually Dragon age has no DRM other than a disk check.
they are trying to use DLC to control piracy

It wouldn't surprise me. It will be damn near impossible to reach the degree of perfection that is Mafia again. The era of quality PC games that Mafia was born in (1985-2003) has long passed.

Square is in Sony's pocket and long has been. The last Final Fantasy game
(XI) to reach the PC was back in 2002-2003. XII was PS2 exclusive and XIII will most likely be PS3 exclusive.

The only thing dirty about it is the DLCs. There could be install limits but I don't know. Spore had SecuROM and every EA game released in the last few years had SecuROM as well. EA added the install limit to Spore and a few other titles but they quickly retracted that tactic after the public dissent over it.

If u like football games...

ProEvo 2010 is fantastic this year (despite various shortcomings). I would recommend that for PC as you can mod all your kits and crowd chants etc.

Other than that, Risen on PC is a fantastic RPG if you like that sort of thing. Way way better than any Oblivion or Mass Effect, both of which I thought were utter crap.

AC has its moments but the action is broken and inconsistent.
