Hi all :) As the title suggests, my DVD drive has given up the ghost. I use the drive for software, which won't run without the disc inserted.

I can't connect a normal DVD drive, as it's a laptop. So I do have another DVD drive I can use to copy the disc, which I've tried and then mounted as an image, but the software knows it's not the real disc.

Is there any way to copy this disc so the software accepts it?

Thanks :)

With Alcohol 120% (shareware) or Alcohol 52% (freeware), you'll be able to create 1:1 image of the original DVD, or just share the DVD drive via iSCSI. Since all DVD drives die over time, another alternative is to buy external DVD drive, and keep it in a isolated place, until you need it.

Swap out the knackered DVD drive.
often its one retaining Screw in the Rear /base of the laptop .
"undo and Pull"
your used to pulling:p:rolleyes:o_O
working DVD rewriters can be had for less than a fiver on flebay

Post scriptum Edit :)
You could try
Mapping working DVD Drive on your pc as a network drive on the laptop (wired not wireless)
That may work (you might have to re install game/software over the mapped drive for software/game to confirm genuine DVD)

It would be cheaper and easier to replace the DVD drive, but you could use an external drive enclosure to place the 5.25" drive in and connect via USB.

As others already suggested I'd rather look into replacing the DVD drive.
Only thing you should look after is whether you need a slim or super slim drive, and having a SATA port (or maybe the old IDE, don't know how old is the laptop).
