Don't like how the stuff is positioned, but I have no better idea at the moment. The thermal cam picture is probably a bit too small, too

What resolution is the sensor in the FLIR?

Thoroughly jealous, I was looking at getting one for other reasons, then saw the prices. eeek!

At the two minute mark I thought it would not become louder. Then at the 2.50 mark I thought "it can't get louder". I was wrong both times. :(

But yes, something like that would be great. To make out the acoustics. How far away from the card were you?

about 60 cm, but the main issues are the recording volume, what volume ends up in the video, what volume you have set on your speakers.

no idea how users could "calibrate" their output speaker levels to match what I'm hearing

For me the videos look fine - if I were to nitpick, well, perhaps you could have positioned the cameras so that the card appears perfectly horizontal, or at least parallel to each other.

Don't like how the stuff is positioned, but I have no better idea at the moment. The thermal cam picture is probably a bit too small, too

Well, one idea would be to have both images the same size. Ideally if one has to be larger, it should be the thermal cam's picture since that's the most interesting one.
I don't know if it's possible due to resolution limitations though. And probably if you lower the resolution on the other cam to have both images the same size the video would be too tiny. The only way to know would be to try it out.

or at least parallel to each other.

using a ghetto setup right now with thermal camera "mounted" between books and video camera sitting on too high tripod :) need to buy two more tripods and mod a tripod mount into the thermal cam

the videos are recorded each at their native res and then positioned and rescaled in the editing software

Neat! :toast:

How long does it take for the gpu core to collapse and form a singularity :D

EDIT- you should try reversing one of the photos so the components on the card are aligned left to right

I think if you could make it 16:9@1080p you could make the thermal image larger and it wouldn't be an issue.

I don't know how I missed this, I like it!!

How about you hold your sound meter so we can see the number, most smart phones can do rudimentary Db metering with free apps, hold you phone up and make sure the numbers match by adjusting the volume = close enough. Dedicate 10 or 15 seconds of the video to this portion.

Was the FLIR shown actually the 290X? It only shows one power connector in the FLIR image VS the two on the card?

I've been thinking about how to integrate noise measurements with this setup. I need to read the serial port output of the meter, record that to a file (while making no noise, so no second machine) and then somehow render the numbers on top of the video

The card was just a random card I have lying around for testing the setup

I like how it is here. I will be watching the left side, while the right side has nothing but a glace worth of information. Along with your overclock testing, this sounds like a great addition. I want a thermal camera too :(...

I could guess you are covering the motherboard for a cleaner picture, but why is that necessary?

The card was just a random card I have lying around for testing the setup
I wish I had a couple of 290x's just laying around:(...

Perhaps redundant, why not feed the FLIR image to the screen with the render load from Gpu-z along with temps and then add the read stream into GPu-z from the serial port? All in one screen, and then record that with a single camera?

So, top left FLIR image, lower left Gpu-z run screen with Db measurement, right side of screen render payne for GPU load or something like this?

all i would say is you should allways record volumes with an identical setup and sound levels set then we can at least effectively compare with what speakers we have but nice toy ,looking forward to its further use :)
