So, i have a new laptop, only 2 weeks old. when im running the laptop with NOTHING running, i can hear this "buzzing"/"meeping" sound that seems to be coming from the laptop's fan-part or something like that.

it is an ASUS vivobook S405UA-BM188T with 8gb memory that i have.

should i just buy a new fan for it, or?

You do have warranty for it right? You can return it back or send it to the service centre if it is past the return date.

How do you describe the meep? Laptop may get loud in intensive use for certain models.

Sounds like a sound Kermit the frog would make... particularly when he dies.

Not that I'd know, or anything...

have you compared the sound with the other laptop?
or some laptops has different fan sound that is pretty normal

first check the fan speed, i mean try to listen it carefully, maybe there's any up speed and down speed
or you got bad fan. you can rely on your warranty

ASUS, if you ever go for warranty claim make sure you video tape everything and let them know that. One of the worst companies in terms of customer service

From now on I'm using "coil meep" as a synonym for "coil whine". Honestly.

Some companies won't accept an RMA for coil wine if I recall correctly.

I remember when the 7970 or one iteration of GPU that was released was making coil wine on a ton of their cards ,and they released an official statement saying that wine wasn't a reason for RMA . If it's coil wind though it'll go away when there's a heavy load on the GPU or there's not a heavy load on the GPU one of the other, so you should be able to rule that out pretty quickly by running a game or a benchmark. if it's intermittent ,then it's likely coil whine, if it's not then it may be something else

Either coil whine or I think it might possibly be the HDD ?
Hell, I've even heard my SSDs make a very similar noise when I'm benching them but only after they were put in raid0.

Does this happen in specific circumstances ? high/low cpu/gpu load ? high/low disk usage ?

yup, they squeal when running benchmarks, not loudly enough to be annoying, but in a quiet room you'll hear it if you're sitting next you your pc.

My old Dell laptop meeped a lot over the speakers. Playing a music file of silence squelched it iirc (as that made the speaker output driver switch from disconnected to driven apparently.)
