This is a known issue among all ASUS x299 motherboards. The only fix I've tried and found that worked was updating the BIOS or rolling back the BIOS. Most cases rolling back the BIOS is the fix but then you loss the ability to use the 10xxx series chips. My suggestion is to ditch the ASUS board and get a better supported board with an awesome BIOS like an EVGA Dark/FTW-K :). GL!!

At that point, might as well just sell everything off and buy a 5950X or a 12900K, they're both going to murder the 10980XE in practically every application and most multithreaded benchmarks as well

But it's safe to assume we're probably clueless as to OP's problem, it's... most unusual indeed.

Adding an USB card with decent/compatible USB chipset does not fix?

I had 2 of them in to try and fix this issue.
-First one i rolled back the BIOS and the USB drivers it end up working after. ( Disabled auto updates for the driver as well)
-Second one i did use a PCIE USB 3.0 card that worked but wasn't enough ports for the user so i swapped the whole board for them.

Hi,
I looked again but I haven't seen the exact keyboard yet
Frankly I've never even heard of the brand before but working in linux sure is a driver issue in ms store or really lack of driver seeing no input.

The advice Pictus gave you a month ago is on point, the only thing that could cause an issue as far as I am aware is the USB hand-off settings in BIOS, and that's only if you installed your operating system incorrectly (i.e. in legacy mode), otherwise this shouldn't really apply. If that hasn't resolved it, you have an OS-level problem, and you should reformat your computer with proper UEFI mode. Even if your keyboard's got custom drivers, it should have basic functionality without them installed or in a live Linux operating system.

I wonder though, why did you go after an R5E at this point, and to use with a locked server-grade processor to boot? Those motherboards are very rare and sought after by overclockers, they cost a bundle, and a Xeon can absolutely not benefit from anything it offers since it's hopelessly locked. For that kind of money you'd have a PC at least thrice as fast (and about 5 times faster if you account single-threaded performance vs. a Haswell-E Xeon) if you bought a Ryzen 5950X instead.

Ah, never mind it's late and I goof'd, you're on a newer R6EE now using a 7980XE/9980XE/10980XE... still a raw deal unless you need AVX-512, but that should definitely work with any keyboard.
Hi, I would like to know more about where in bios these settings are Unlike previous high end mother boards ,at least Asus boards had almost all the setting visible and it was fairly easy to view anything installed but now a lot of the settings are hidden and I am not that comfortable messing around in the bios If you would please tell me the general pathway to take in bios to get to the USB settings you mentioned here and I really would like to thank you guys for help

On my Gigabyte X99 board (which I assumed you were running initially as you mentioned the R5E on the OP), these settings are in the Peripherals tab in the BIOS. But I can't really pinpoint you exactly where you will find them because every motherboard has a different BIOS and I never used a X299 machine before. What you want to do is toggle the XHCI and EHCI handoff settings, if you look around you will likely find it somewhere. The motherboard manual should be of more help there than I could be. But it is still very much a shot in the dark, I wish I could be of more help.

Roccat has been around for some time, they are mostly operating in Europe though. I've had one of their mice before, I really liked it.

If the kyboard issue does not resolve itself immediately after switching OS/driver - try this.

Inside Ubuntu Live (once you booted it) - right click the mouse, open a terminal window and type 'dmesg -w'
What this does is give you very detailed diagnostics, and probably will show you that you have pin/chip/voltage issues to the USB chipset.

I recommend bypassing your USB stack with a motherboard card - if all the keyboards start working correctly then it's either one of the USB ports / driver or a physical failing USB chip.

I have purchased motherboards with bad USB chipsets, and/or bad ethernet chip sets. Buying dongles or PCI cards solved it coming in that way.

Hi, I have two of the Rampage extreme 6 encore motherboards and I know or at least one other person in my town who also owns one of these motherboards, he is just using a lower core count cpu although I cant remember off hand exactly which one he has but all 3 of these motherboards have the exact same key board issue and we have no tried something like 16 different keyboards with the exact same issue, so my natural question would then be ,what are the odds of at least 3 identical Asus motherboards just by chance having the same usb power input pin issue and I have seen his computer setup and he does indeed have the exact same issue but only when we install any version of windows. When in bios or Umbundu, every keyboard works perfectly, it's as if these motherboards were never designed to run windows which is obviously not correct. I have tried posting this issue at every hardware forum I could find online and except for you , I haven't received any reply even from Linus tech tips forums and he comes across as some sort of expert on anything to do with computers and im wandering why almost everyone in these forums is simply ignoring this very annoying issue. In over 30 years of computer building and servicing, this is the first time I have ever even seen this problem. What makes this issue even more annoying is if I push the num lock key, all the number keys on each motherboard will display on screen perfectly but none of the letters except for the odd one but some random letter key will display a letter once but only once. Unless almost no one reads any of these forum posts, someone out there must certainly know what the issue is since I won't except that I am the only person with a computer that is being haunted by this very annoying problem. I thank you for your input and please don't give up ,with at least two of us looking, one of us must surely eventually come across what the real issue is.

Hi, Before I go and yet again format my drive for probably the 80th time, could you please tell me what this version of windows is and exactly what makes you think this will correct me issue. I briefly looked it up and if I read the numbers correctly, this is some pre beta or alpha version of windows 11. Could you please explain to me what you think an old version of windows such as this is supposed to correct so when I load it on my drive, I will at least some idea what it should be doing?

Hi, I loaded UBUNTU 22.04 and in the try mode, both keyboards work perfectly when they wont in Windows. Now my big question is, why is this happening, please tell me since now I know I may not have purchased an extra keyboard for nothing. Please reply as soon as you get my message and are able to. Thank you so far for giving me some much needed hope
sounds like windows either has a wrong driver set for them, or has the wrong language loaded for those keyboards

Something like a Fn key being 'pressed' even when it's not

Those are just confirmed clean versions of windows, where you know what exact version you're getting

A lot of people grab pre-cracked dodgy OS's from random websites and they're full of malware and broken settings

I had a similar problem with a roccat keyboard. I would find the computer thinking the control key was held down. I simply had to press the ctrl key and then I could start typing again. The ghost control key still plagues me and I can't figure out where it is coming from. But it is sporadic and prob related to a defect in the circuit board of the keyboard.

Some keyboards (ugh my logitech K400+) default to the opposite of what you expect, needing Fn pressed to access the default keys

some mice have keyboard features programmed in, some keyboards have mice features, etc.

I've definitely had spilled drinks in keyboards play up months later but that shouldn't be the case with a new keyboard
