My new built 18 core on the Rampage extreme encore wont work with my Roccat keyboard

My build wont except almost any keyboard commands and I have another identical rampage motherboard with exactly the same issue. The keyboards I have work perfectly fine with my older build on the rampage 5 extreme and the Intel core I7-5960X but when I plug the keyboards into the Rampage extreme encore build, any key I push causes random other things to open on the screen like the volume controls or random web pages but I simply cant type any letters or words and I have another identical Rampage extreme encore mother that has the exact same issue and I even tried the cheapest wall mart brand keyboard I could find and it also does the exact same thing and yet these keyboards work perfectly in other towers I plug them into too. Both motherboards have the newest 1301 bios and all drivers I had for the motherboards and still nothing. I have tried several clean installs and still nothing.

I have built literally hundreds of computers over the last 30 years and this issue is the very first time I see it and I simply do not know what to do. There are no error codes and the mice I plug into all the same USB ports works perfectly so the USB ports are not dead but as soon as I plug the two keyboards I have, I get no response. Every so often it will let me push certain keys once such as the g key but then it wont allow more.
I really need help with this since there is no obvious codes. Anyone here who may be able to offer any assistance, please contact me because I am at a complete dead end as where to go from here.

I would load up Ubuntu live (usb or dvd) and test it there - outside your windows environment. If you still have the same issues on ubuntu live desktop, report back here.

Hi, thank you for offering to help. I have never used Ubuntu live or even what it is. Is it a complete operating system or just an add on? If you can offer any easy directions on where and how to get it so I can try it on a USB, I would greatly appreciate it. It will take me some time in figuring out just how to get it and set it up on a USB but once I have it, I will let you know unless as IU already said, if you know any short cut way to get it, please let me know. I am good and I know my hard ware stuff very well but not so much with software.

Hi, I loaded UBUNTU 22.04 and in the try mode, both keyboards work perfectly when they wont in Windows. Now my big question is, why is this happening, please tell me since now I know I may not have purchased an extra keyboard for nothing. Please reply as soon as you get my message and are able to. Thank you so far for giving me some much needed hope

Well it's good you localized this to software by testing in linux and verifying that the keyboard works. I would ensure a clean install of windows 10 or windows 11 and install the appropriate drivers for the board as needed. Now you know the hardware is fine, you'll just need to play with it to figure out what's causing it. Alas, I haven't got much advice beyond that without more info.

Hi, I tried installing Roccat swarm and regardless if it is installed or not, the keyboards simply wont work and even with multiple clean installs, the result is the same. The drivers that Asus provides with these boards is highly lacking and proper chipset drivers do no t seem to specify anything in them for USB support. I also cant find specific USB drivers and every place I checked had old outdate drivers for any version of USB.I do thank you guys for recommending trying UBUNTU and since the keyboards work in that operating system, at least I really hope that means there is nothing wrong with the motherboard. If anyone else here also has a useable possible fix, please let me know.

Right from the very beginning of installing windows 10 and at the very first spot where you have to put the name of the user, The keyboards already do not work.

(...) If anyone else here also has a useable possible fix, please let me know.

First check if your keyboard has a firmware update.
Does your keyboard have USB Polling Rate settings?
If it does, set it to 125Hz, can also try:

- Like eidairaman1mentioned, try to unplug/re-plug
- Make sure to clear the motherboard CMOS(the jumper)
- Remove all plugged USB stuff and only keep the mouse/keyboard
- In the BIOS try to disable IOMMU
- Try a different USB port
- In the BIOS try to invert the USB settings like:
If "Legacy USB Support" is enabled, try to disable
If "xHCI/eHCI Hand-Off" is enabled, try to disable
If they are disabled, try to enable

--------

If all fails, I would try a radical solution...
Buy a PCie card with a more compatible USB chipset like NEC/Renesas or Fresco Logic.
It is what musicians do to connect their USB audio interfaces when the onboard one is creating problems...
Weird USB problems may happen with more complex/older peripheral, but for a simple keyboard, that is very odd.
Anyway, this one uses NEC uPD720201 it is only $12
or

This one uses Fresco Logic FL1100

Maybe massage the cable to see if there are any opens/shorts from the plug end all the way to the tension relief on the kb itself

That includes putting torsion on it

Hi, I have that Asus motherboard that wont work with and keyboard and absolutely no place online can I find anyone who is either willing to help me figure this out or I have received several posts from someone who must be 4 or 5 years old. The thing is when I do connect a ssd with windows 10 already loaded, the computer works perfectly with no errors and is extremely fast except the motherboard does basicaly nothing but display weird signs. Asus technical support has also proven to be almost useless so where else can I go for some real and logical help on this very annoying issue.I simply do not know what to do that I have not already retied and I surely can not be the only person with this problem so anyone out there that can help me please do.

Have you tried getting a USB 2.0/3.0 HUB and connect the keyboard through the HUB instead of directly to the board?

What Roccat Keyboard are you using ?, have you installed the right software for it. To make sure go to there site and find the keyboard in question and get the newest drivers for it and there might be a firmware update there too.

I turn odd USB boot options off in bios it's always seemed more reliable and get less disconnects.

For what it's worth get in touch with Roccat.

Hi, The name of my keyboard is ROCCAT SUORA FX. The driver version is 1.9417 and the firmware is 1.06. Once I have windows 10 installed the computer is extremely fast reacting with no error messages of any kind but the keyboard is essentially as if not connected. I really need help with this build since I cant even think of where to go next in trouble shooting this very annoying issue

The advice Pictus gave you a month ago is on point, the only thing that could cause an issue as far as I am aware is the USB hand-off settings in BIOS, and that's only if you installed your operating system incorrectly (i.e. in legacy mode), otherwise this shouldn't really apply. If that hasn't resolved it, you have an OS-level problem, and you should reformat your computer with proper UEFI mode. Even if your keyboard's got custom drivers, it should have basic functionality without them installed or in a live Linux operating system.

I wonder though, why did you go after an R5E at this point, and to use with a locked server-grade processor to boot? Those motherboards are very rare and sought after by overclockers, they cost a bundle, and a Xeon can absolutely not benefit from anything it offers since it's hopelessly locked. For that kind of money you'd have a PC at least thrice as fast (and about 5 times faster if you account single-threaded performance vs. a Haswell-E Xeon) if you bought a Ryzen 5950X instead.

Ah, never mind it's late and I goof'd, you're on a newer R6EE now using a 7980XE/9980XE/10980XE... still a raw deal unless you need AVX-512, but that should definitely work with any keyboard.
